Ryan Reynolds as the Green Lantern
Posted by: Kerri on Jul 12th, 2009 2 Comments »

The rivalry between DC Comics and Marvel has been going on for what seems like forever.  Batman.  Spiderman.  Superman.  The Avengers. The Fantastic Four.  The Justice League.  The Hulk.  Iron Man.

It came as no surprise to see that both DC and Marvel have created their own movie studios and that the feud has left the comic book world and taken the big screen.

And now at the crux of this feud, where there’s due to be Iron Man and Batman sequels, and the Avengers is on the horizon, comes The Green Lantern, a staple in the DC Universe.

And it has just been reported that Ryan Reynolds has signed on to play this legendary DC Superhero.

For those who are unfamiliar with this comic book legend, he first made an appearance in All American Comics #16 in July of 1940.  Originally created by writer Bill Finger and artist Martin Nodell, the Green Lantern was adorned with a power ring that gives the user control over the physical world, as long he had the strength and will power to be able to wield it.

Reynolds, according to the Hollywood Reporter beat out Justin Timberlake and Bradley Cooper as Warner Bros first choice for the iconic superhero.  Also, the process of choosing the newest superhero was a lengthy one, and now makes Reynolds the ONLY actor to play a character in both DC and Marvel universes.

Most recently Reynolds can been seen playing Deadpool in the X-men Origins series, Wolverine.  It has also been rumored that Deadpool may be seeing a spinoff in the near future, which will star Reynolds.  Also, Reynolds can be seen as the vampire hunter, Hannibal King, in Blade: Trinity.

This also won’t be Reynolds first dip in the DC Universe, as he was tapped a few years ago to play the Flash.

Directed by Martin Campbell with a screenplay by Greg Berlanti and Michael Green, the Green Lantern is tentatively scheduled to have a release date of June 17, 2011.

  Kevin Smith Casts Jason Lee

Jason Lee

Jason Lee

There’s no denying it.  Jason Lee delivers Kevin Smith’s dialog like no other.  I still, to this day, laugh hysterically every time I watch Mallrats.

I know all the jokes, I know the plot, I know the outcome. It doesn’t matter, Jason Lee still makes me laugh like a giddy school boy every time he delivers those lines.

I was stoaked to hear today that Kevin Smith’s cast Lee in his upcoming film A Couple of Dicks.

There’s no details yet as to who Jason will play, but hopefully it’s a big role.  After all, Jason Lee doesn’t have much else going on, since NBC cancelled “My Name Is Earl” after last season ended.

A Couple of Dicks also stars Tracey Morgan and Bruce Willis as LAPD partners.

It’s sure to be a laughfest, even though Kevin Smith didn’t write it himself.

Posted by: Christine on May 28th, 2009 2 Comments »

Apparently a very young Christian Bale got his acting debut in a Pac-Man cereal commercial. He’s the dancing young lad with the classy ’80s sunglasses.

According to his IMdb page he was 9 and it was a British commercial.

  Hannibal Lecter Lives!

Dr. Hannibal Lecter

Dr. Hannibal Lecter

This is probably the most exciting news I’ve read this entire week.

Anthony Hopkins has contacted Sir Ridley Scott to bring Hannibal Lecter back to the big screen.  Rumor also, is that Cate Blanchett will take over for Jodie Foster’s role, seeing as how Jodie Foster is busy directing another film.

After Silence of the Lambs, I don’t think anyone looked at Anthony Hopkins the same way.  Though the two sequels were highly disappointing, I have high hopes for this new film.

How does this make you feel?  After seeing Hannibal and Red Dragon are you glad that they’ll be making the move back to a Hopkins based film?

Someone close to the film has been quoted as saying

Hopkins and Scott are both very committed. We like what we’ve got, and the revised script is really, really good.

I think this bodes well for those of us who adore Anthony Hopkins

Monica Bellucci

Monica Bellucci

In what may turn out to be the hottest Disney movie ever, Monica Bellucci has joined the cast of The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.

Though the movie is a Disney movie, it’s also a Jerry Bruckheimer film, so it’s probably not going to be entirely geared at children.

Bellucci will play Veronica in the film.  Veronica is a sorceress, and the “lost lost love” of Nicolas Cage’s character, Balthazar Blake

The film revolves around a sorcerer who recruits and trains a young protege to help him fight the forces of darkness in modern-day Manhattan.

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is shooting in New York City with Jon Turteltaub directing.

The film also co-stars Nicolas Cage, Jay Baruchel, Alfred Molina, Teresa Palmer and Toby Kebbell

Mila Kunis

Mila Kunis

You remember Date Night, right?  Tina Fey, Steve Carell? Sound familiar?  If it doesn’t, you should make note of it now, because it’s going to be hysterical.

The movie recently got three new cast members involved.  It’s being reported that Ray Liotta, Mila Kunis and Mark Ruffalo have joined the cast.

For those that don’t remember, Date Night is about Fey and Carell who play a married couple who find their routine date night becoming much more than just dinner and a movie.

The rest of the cast is made up of some pretty big names, too:

Mark Wahlberg, James Franco, Taraji P. Henson, Jimmi Simpson, Common, Kristen Wiig and Leighton Meester.

The movie is currently filming, and is scheduled for release April 9th, 2010.

  Valentine’s Day all-star cast

Anne Hathaway, just because

Anne Hathaway, just because

New Line cinemas are in the process of casting their upcoming romantic comedy, titled Valentine’s Day.  Their gameplan is to get everyone that is, was, or will be a big star, to be in the movie.

Julia Roberts, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel, Jennifer Garner, Shirley MacLaine, Bradley Cooper and Ashton Kutcher are already in negotiations, and rumor is that they’re pretty late stage negotiations, too.

The movie is said to be the story of five very different stories, all revolving around Valentine’s day.

  • Julia Roberts is an army officer on leave from Iraq on a flight to L.A. Cooper, on the same flight, is a gay man whose lover is a closeted football player.
  • Ashton Kutcher is an owner of a flower shop who proposes to his girlfriend (Jessica Alba), only to realize he is in love with his close friend, played by Jennifer Garner, who discovers her boyfriend is married.
  • Shriley MacLaine plays Julia Roberts‘ mother, a happy retiree who reveals to her husband a long-ago affair.
  • Anne Hathaway is an assistant working at the biggest talent agency in town and dating a mailroom assistant; Jessica Biel is a publicist unlucky in love (is there any other kind?) who has no date on Valentine’s Day.

But the question is, can an all-star cast make up for a bad movie?  Studios should have learned a lesson when He’s Just Not That Into You didn’t do so hot, and that had pretty much everyone in it.  Only time will tell.
