  Boston Movie Scene A-buzz
Posted by: Kerri on Jun 19th, 2009 2 Comments »

It should come as no surprise that lately the Greater Boston area has seen more and more celebrities about town.  Sitting in Starbucks, going to dinner, catching a Red Sox game.

But why has everyone been flocking to the Hub?  Movies.  In recent years, more and more movies have been filming in or around the Boston area, and Hollywood’s obsession with Boston has become far more serious.  Can you blame them?  If you’re from Boston, you know how incredible it is.

And it’s hard not to get excited seeing a local spot on the big screen that you just so happen to frequent.

Next up on the docket, Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz are considering a trip to Boston in September to start filming Witchita, a movie about a single woman who meets a man and subsequently falls in love with him before finding out he’s a secret agent.

The exact location of the shoot is unconfirmed, but you shouldn’t be surprised to see Tom Cruise traipsing around Boston from September to November for this movie.

Another Hollywood hotshot seen enjoying the Boston scene is Cambridge native Eliza Dushku.  If you’ve been following her on Twitter, you know she’s recently been to a Red Sox game and been jogging along the Charles. Currently, she’s been working with Joss Whedon on Dollhouse, and has a short list of movies that are in pre-production that are scheduled to release anywhere from the end of this year to the beginning of 2010.

For those Boston natives, and tourists alike, there are a few websites to check out that give limited (but good) information on upcoming movies that will be filming in and around the Hub.  Check out Boston Movie Tours and Loaded Gun Boston to see who will be where, and for how long.

Christian Bale Talks About His Rant New EW
Posted by: Christine on May 19th, 2009 Leave a Comment »

entertainment-weekly-may-2009The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly features MovieSnobs favorite Christian Bale on the cover.

The cover story is intended to provide fans with insight into the new Terminator movie, but inevitably strays into tabloid territory. The writer asks Bale about his profanity-laden on set outburst that became the rant heard ’round the world when it was leaked on the internet in February.

Of the rant, Bale says,

I don’t care to go into details because, you know what, I don’t believe in making excuses. It doesn’t matter. It was unacceptable. I went too far. And I learned from it.’

When asked what he learned, he laughs and says, “Count to 10 first.”

You can read the rest of Bale’s thoughts on his rant, and the story of how he signed on to Terminator: Salvation at ew.com or in the issue on newstands now.

Jason Statham to play The Mechanic

Jason Statham

Jason Statham

That one’s for you, ladies.  Since I’ve been adding images to all the posts for today, I thought I’d give you ladies some eye candy.  Tell your friends.

Next to Samuel L. Jackson, Jason Statham may be the baddest son of a bitch alive.

As cheesey as some of his movies can be (Transporter 3, War, etc.), he’s a tough guy, and would certainly kick your ass if you told him you hated one of his movies. (I’ve seen him do this.  He once bludgeoned a guy because he said Transporter 2 could have been better. True story.)

Statham’s next role, no surprise, involves kicking and punching people in their faces.  Awesome? I say so.

Jason will be taking on the role of Arthur Bishop, originally played by Charles Bronson back in 1972.

The Mechanic is a tale of Arthur Bishop, who works for “The Orginazation.”  Eventually the killer of killers finds himself training the son of one of his victims as the film turns into a case of the pupil overtaking the master.

Filming is set to start this summer in Shreveport, LA. So if you’re int he area, stop by, and tell Jason how awesome he is.

Hugh Jackman Is a Nice Guy

Hugh Jackman is not only cool, but he’s apparently a nice guy, too.

TMZ got hold of a receipt from a bakery in Tempe, Arizona, where Hugh apparently bought breakfast for a bunch of people who’d lined up for the Wolverine premiere last weekend.

He spent just ver $4,300 on breakfast for them. If that doesn’t make him a nice guy, I don’t know what does.

Check out the receipt, here. (Warning, link is to a PDF.)

  Nolan’s Inception Gets a Cast

It’s no secret that we here at MovieSnobs love Christopher Nolan, and pretty much anything he’s done, or ever will done.  When we heard about his newest movie Inception being green lit, we were thrilled.

News broke last night that Nolan’s begun scouting talent for the film, and is in talks with some big name stars to be in the movie.  Who? Glad you asked.

Ellen Page (Juno), Cillian Murphy (Batman Begins, Red Eye, Sunshine), and Marion Cotillard (Big Fish, Public Enemies), that’s who.

I’m a big fan of Cillian Murphy’s, especially after Batman Begins, and who doesn’t love Ellen Page?  I can’t comment on Marion Cotillard, because I’ve never heard of her, and she’s only mostly done French films (aside from a handful of B movies).

All we know about Inception thus far is that it’s a “sci-fi” movie “based on the architecture of the mind.”  Based on previous Nolan movies, it’s going to be amazing, confusing, and leave you wondering what the hell just happened.

Inception was written by Christopher Nolan and his screenwriter brother, Jonathan Nolan.

  Zahn defends Bale

In a recent interview with the Boston Metro, Steve Zahn was asked what he thought about Christian Bale.

For those that don’t know, Zahn and Bale worked together on 2006′s Rescue Dawn.  Which, while I wanted to love it, was just mediocre.

When asked if he thought Bale was hotheaded, Zahn replied saying

Maybe that DP was a complete a-hole and Christian was the only one who could put him in his spot.

He goes on to say

Also, he’s f***ng hysterical. I always joked, ‘Why don’t you do any comedies man?’ We have the same problem. I never get the Batman part and he never gets the comedies because of the way we’re perceived.

Christian Bale, playing in a comedic role?  I’d pay $10 to see that.

  Andy Samberg hosting MTV awards

Many SNL alum have hosted MTV’s Movie Awards in the past, and many have failed at it.

This year, on May 31st, Andy Samberg gets his shot.

One could argue that Samberg is just this generation’s Adam Sandler, and that he (like Sandler) is a one-trick pony, but I strongly disagree.  Samberg is consistently funny, week after week on SNL.  Though if I had to pick an SNL cast member to host anything, I’d pick Wiig, in a heartbeat.

  Weekend Update 03/09/2009
Posted by: Mike on Mar 9th, 2009 Leave a Comment »

Sorry for the lack of updates over the weekend. We moved the site to a new (faster, better, more reliable) host, and had a ton of troubleshooting we had to take care of.

With that said, let’s catch you up on things that happened:

  • RopesofSilicon has the first look at Keira Knightly in  Last Nightsee it here.
  • Dakota Fanning has finally been confirmed to star in New Moon, as Jane.  For those of us who haven’t read the novels, that means nothing. For those of you who have read the novels, get a life.
  • Malin Akerman (Watchmen, 27 Dresses) and Ryan Phillippe (I Know What You Did Last Summer, Crash) have been cast in The Bang Bang Club.
  • Watchmen made just shy of $56 million on its opening weekend.  Putting it high atop this weekend’s box office charts.  Based on feedback of my valued comic-book loving friends, the movie doesn’t do the graphic novel any justice, and thus I’ll be steering clear of it.
  • A new (and awesomely OCD) poster for Order of Chaos surfaced.  Check it out below.

Hopefully the faster and more stable site will make it worth the lack of updates over the weekend.
