Review of Alternate Version of I Am Legend

I Am Legend Alternate Ending

After having seen I Am Legend at the premiere in New York City, I was thoroughly satisfied with the film. It had an elegant ending that left viewers with an explanation, if even a typical Hollywood one.

When the DVD release announcement was made, with the news that an alternate ending would be included, I was anxious to see the “controversial” ending. I had heard that the movie’s original ending was extremely different from the original Richard Matheson novel, so I picked up the book.

For those that don’t know the ending of the Matheson novel, and don’t mind me spoiling it, Show Spoilers

The ending of the book intrigued me, mainly because I think Will Smith would have done a fantastic job with it. This isn’t the ending that the filmmakers made as the alternate ending, but it has similar themes.

The alternate ending is detailed below, behind spoiler hiders. Read on if you have seen the alternate ending, or don’t mind heavy spoilers.

What did you think of the alternate ending of I Am Legend? Did you prefer it over the original ending?

  New Review: Run Fatboy Run

Katy reviewed the new Simon Pegg flick (directed by Friends‘ David Schwimmer) and says,

In all honesty, while this was a genuinely cute movie, this really cannot compare to the sheer hilarity of Pegg’s performance alongside Nick Frost in Hot Fuzz.

Christine reviewed the movie version of the Broadway musical and London legend Sweeney Todd. Her five-star review says,

The movie is entertaining, which is all we’re really looking for in a movie…The ending is a tightly orchestrated masterpiece – absolutely my favorite part of the film. I definitely recommend watching this, if you can deal with the musical aspect of it and can stomach the blood. It’s a must-see.

  New Review: 10,000 BC

Katy checked out 10,000 BC and was not a fan. She says,

The movie itself had so many strange moments and idiosyncrasies…Firstly, the tribe speaks English, while all the others speak their indigenous tongues…To add to that, they all that the Hollywood smile: perfectly straight and blinding white teeth!…This is one that I would not recommend running to see. I was rolling my eyes quite a bit and had much more fun picking this apart, as you could tell. If you are itching to check it out, see a nice matinee or wait for the DVD. It’s really worth paying only $5 or $6.

The MovieSnobs team loves Jason Statham, so Katy checked out his latest, The Bank Job. She says,

I wish that I could say that Jason Statham has completely redeemed himself since his last clunker of a film. Not quite! He may not have gotten there yet, but he’s well on his way. This time, the choice of film was a rather decent one.

New Review: The Other Boleyn Girl

Katy reviewed the semi-historical The Other Boleyn Girl starring Eric Bana, Natalie Portman, and Scarlett Johansson. She says,

The casting could not have been better! Johansson and Portman used every emotional resource available in battling it out for the kingdom and repairing the resulting damage of the family relationships. Bana was superb as the king who went through wives like most of us go through tissues.

  New Review: Enchanted

Christine reviewed the live-action fairy-tale Enchanted and says,

It’s definitely a movie to watch with the kiddies, and as a young woman who grew up watching Disney princess stories, it’s a nice semi-grown-up version of a familiar tale.

  New Review: August Rush
Posted by: Christine on Mar 12th, 2008 Leave a Comment »

Mike checked out the musically-infused August Rush and says,

August Rush is an absolutely fabulous movie. It’s endearing, heart warming, and brilliant. I’m not sure if I just connected with the movie, because I absolutely love music, or if I really just loved the movie. Either way, there were very few things in the movie that I didn’t like.
