Did It Bomb? Weekend of 10/19/07

Welcome back to another installment of DIB?, where the results are in from all the predictions made last week. How did I do? It’s time to find out!

Gone Baby Gone: Set here in our home state of Massachusetts, Ben Affleck’s debut as a director features the search for a missing girl.
Will It Bomb?: Great casting and a nice looking trailer. Can Ben deliver? It will bring in some bucks, though. I can safely say that.
Did It Bomb?: It has been placed at the #6 position, making $5.5 million! It’s staying here, baby!
Outcome: Score! 1 out of 6.

Rendition: The government supposedly can detain anyone they think poses a terror risk, and it’s up to the wife of a missing man and some government agents to unravel the plot.
Will It Bomb? Trailer looks too overdramatic, with not enough substance to back it up. Possible, but not definite, Top 10 standing.
Did It Bomb? Bringing in only $4.06 million, it is perched at #9. Eh, not an outright bomb, but pretty close. Nice try, kids.
Outcome: Score! 2 out of 6.

Reservation Road: Guilt, rage, and many other emotions are all rolled into one film, after a man is involved in a hit and run accident, killing a boy.
Will It Bomb? I think it will go into the 10, based simply on the wonderful casting choices.
Did It Bomb? Currently, in limited release, it has brought in a bit over $36,000, with a #60 placement in the Box Office. It’s not looking very good.
Outcome: Strike! 2 out of 6.

The Comebacks: Are you a sports movie nut? Every single sports movie known to man is referenced in this film, and the filmmakers spare no expense in letting you know this!
Will It Bomb? I smell a bomb. I don’t think too many people will want to go that route.
Did It Bomb? It’s a surprise to me, that’s for sure! $5.55 million and a #5 spot, huh?
Outcome: Strike! 2 out of 6.

Things We Lost in the Fire: Tearjerker about a grieving family that brings together a widow and her late husband’s best friend.
Will It Bomb: I doubt that it will be a runaway hit, but it may come into the Top 10. However, the lack of chemistry between the two leads may be the kiss of death for this film.
Did It Bomb? Officially, yes, it was, with a bit over $1.5 million made, and a #15 slot. I don’t see it going anywhere, either.
Outcome: Mezza-mezza. 2 ½ out of 6.

30 Days of Night: Josh Hartnett goes up against vampires for 30 straight nights in the complete darkness of Barrow, Alaska.
Will It Bomb? I am positive this will get into the Top 5. The timing of the film’s release so close to Halloween is definitely a perk.
Did It Bomb? I didn’t think it would, and it didn’t! #1 spot, with $16 million raked in!
Outcome: Score! 3 ½ out of 6.

***Official Box Office tallies and positions according to Variety (variety.com), The Hollywood Reporter (hollywoodreporter.com) and the Internet Movie Database (imdb.com).

Well, guys! A little over half isn’t bad, is it? Can we bring back the magic next time? I hope so! So, come on back later in the week and check out the latest crop over at WIB?! Then bring yourself back here again early next week and see if they delivered.
