Did It Bomb? Weekend of 11/2/07

Hello, kids! I have returned with all the goodies that I talked about last week over at WIB?! How close did I come with all those wacky predictions? It’s time to find out. Right now!

American Gangster: Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe finally re-team in this film, as a crime boss and the cop who tries to bring him down! Ridley Scott works his directorial magic with Russell again as well! These three men are true forces of nature!
Will It Bomb? Definite Top 5 contender. However there may be a battle with Saw IV for the prime spot. It could go either way. The powerhouse posse will probably take it.
Did It Bomb? Does a #1 spot sound like a bomb to you? Making $43.6 million. I didn’t think so!
Outcome: Score! 1 out of 4

Bee Movie: Bee suit-clad Jerry Seinfeld and a whole bunch of other critters introduced in the trailer propelled the story of insects “infiltrating” the human world.
Will It Bomb? Awesome voice casting! This movie is definitely perfect for the kids. This will get into the Top 10, but will miss out on a spot in the 5.
Did It Bomb? Guess I was a little off! Seinfeld and his other buzzing pals pulled in right under American Gangster, landing the #2 spot, gaining a $38 million take in the process.
Outcome:Mezza-mezza. 1 ½ out of 4.

Martian Child: Adopting a little boy who believes that he’s a Martian has put John Cusack back in the “soft family drama” genre again. His child-rearing methods aren’t quite the norm that everyone expects.
Will It Bomb? It’s headed for the mid-to-lower end of the Top 10, standing-wise. Very little chance of getting into the 5.
Did It Bomb? Just as I thought! #7 position, with revenue of $3.38 million.
Outcome: Score! 2 ½ out of 4.

Wristcutters: A Love Story: Patrick Fugit ended up in an afterlife just for those who committed suicide. Not exactly comedic material, but they’ll try to make it work.
Will It Bomb? This film will probably bring in a modest amount of revenue, although it was being put into wide release.
Did It Bomb? While it’s been out for a little over two weeks, its current standing is at #34. With a weekend take of over $110,000, and an overall take of over $225,000, this ended up the way I guessed that it would.
Outcome: Score! 3 ½ out of 4.

***Official Box Office tallies and positions according to Variety (variety.com), The Hollywood Reporter (hollywoodreporter.com) and the Internet Movie Database (imdb.com).

Wow! I’m definitely on a roll this time around! That’s going to do it for me, everyone. I shall return later this week with the latest batch of film releases coming to town over at WIB?! DIB? is back again next week with the recap and the outcome of my assessments. I’ll see all of you then!
