Did It Bomb? Weekend of 1/25/08

Hello, everyone! The weekend has come and gone, but the figures still remain. Last week, I gave you my predictions for how the latest films were going to do financially. What now, you ask? It’s time to pay the piper!

Did I get it on the nose or did I completely wipe out? Let’s find out!

How She Move: A teenager is unable to continue attending an elite private school. As she tries to deal with returning to her tough neighborhood, a stint in a step group may bring her much needed financial assistance.
Will It Bomb? 100%. This film is so beyond clichéd, it has no chance.
Did It Bomb? Did it ever! This didn’t even hit the top 10, and made a lousy $4.2 million. There’s no salvaging this!
Outcome: Score! 1 out of 4.

Meet the Spartans: Parodies galore! This one combines 300, You Got Served and other moments in fairly recent pop culture that many of us wish would stay away. New ideas desperately needed!
Will It Bomb? Those who are into this genre of dippy humor will go to see it. I think it will hit the #5 spot, due to less foot traffic for National Treasure.
Did It Bomb? I missed the mark! Much to my surprise, it debuted at #1 and pulled in a decent amount of $18.7 million.
Outcome: Mezza-mezza. 1 ½ out of 4.

Rambo: No more Rocky. He left this past year. Now, it’s time to say a fond farewell to Rambo. Here comes the final mission and you know Sylvester Stallone will be rustling up his all-important survival and battle skills as well as a nice group of fellow fighters.
Will It Bomb? It’s definitely hitting the Top 10, and will bring in the money thanks to the fans (of course). The Top 5 is pretty solid, so I think it won’t be able to nudge in. It’ll end up in the middle.
Did It Bomb? Man, I underestimated this one! Who would have guessed that with $18.1 million, it would sail into the #2 slot?
Outcome: Mezza-mezza. 2 out of 4.

Untraceable: FBI agent Diane Lane knows two things: criminals and computers. It’s an absolute necessity to be on point to track down a cyber murderer, who gets more cocky and bloodthirsty as more people log on to the website.
Will It Bomb? I’m thinking that a thriller will make it back into the fold, and in a Top 3 standing.
Did It Bomb? It didn’t do as well as I thought it did. It made it to #5, thanks to $11.2 million.
Outcome: Mezza-mezza. 2 ½ out of 4.

***Official Box Office tallies and positions according to Variety (variety.com), The Hollywood Reporter (hollywoodreporter.com) and the Internet Movie Database (imdb.com).

Hmm… Looks like I was half-right for most of them…Well, you can’t win them all! Hopefully, this coming weekend I can get a better grasp of things! Come on back later this week for the newest edition of WIB? where I’ll deliver a brand new set of assessments! Until then!
