Did It Bomb? Weekend of 8/17/07

Hello to all of you this lovely Monday! It’s the start of a new week, but we still want to know what happened at the Box Office! Welcome to the latest installment of DIB?! Are you all geared up to find out how the flicks did? So am I! Let’s hop to it!

Death at a Funeral:
Will It Bomb?: Dark comedy about Brits and funerals. Not to be confused with that other film about Brits and weddings and funerals. Possible Top 10.
Did It Bomb?: For showing in a small amount of theaters, it still made around $1.3 million! Great! However, it didn’t make it on the list.
***Box office tally and position according to the Hollywood Reporter (hollywoodreporter.com) and IMDB.com***
Outcome: Strike! 0 out of 4

Superbad:
Will It Bomb?: The “Knocked Up Virgins” are back with another flick. While it looked pretty silly to me, I found it very likely to hit the Top 10, would probably hit the Top 5.
Did It Bomb?: It shot straight up to #1, with earnings of $33.1 mil! Nice!
***Box office tally and position according to the Hollywood Reporter (hollywoodreporter.com) and IMDB.com***
Outcome: Score! 1 out 4

The Invasion:
Will It Bomb? Another remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Snore-fest! Wouldn’t hit the 5, not very likely to hit the 10. Basically, a bomb.
Did It Bomb? It didn’t make a ton of money ($5.95 million, in fact), but it was enough to end up in the #4 position.
***Box office tally and position according to the Hollywood Reporter (hollywoodreporter.com) and IMDB.com***
Outcome: Strike! 1 out of 4

The Last Legion:
Will It Bomb? New spin on the Arthurian legend, with a mysterious connection to Ancient Rome. Decent profit, with a lower 10 spot.
Did It Bomb? Boy, did I misjudge this one! Pretty much. I guess I was one of the few who actually somewhat liked this film! #12 spot, with revenue of around $2.6 million.
***Box office tally and position according to the Hollywood Reporter (hollywoodreporter.com)and IMDB.com***
Outcome: Strike! 1 out of 4

Hey, you win some, you lose some. It was an off week! Come on back later on this week for my newest crop of predictions at WIB?! DIB? is back at you early next week! Get ready! Get set! I’ll be waiting for you!

You’re not alone. I didn’t think “The Last Legion” would make money but I was still looking forward to it. Hopefully, I can get around to it this week.
