Did It Bomb? Weekend of 8/3/07

Boy! Did a lot a flicks come out this weekend, or what? I know that I was breaking out my predictions like a madwoman, let me tell you! So, naturally, I want to bring all of you the results in the fiercest way possible!

Welcome to another edition of DIB?!!

Did I deliver another impressive round? Let’s see!

Becoming Jane:
Will It Bomb? Biopic about Jane Austen. I was a bit iffy because of the subject and how well Anne Hathaway would adapt to the role. Modest take.
Did It Bomb? With a release in a handful of theaters, and a take of a little over $1 million dollars, that’s not bad.
***Box office tally and position according to the Hollywood Reporter (hollywoodreporter.com) and IMDB.com***
Outcome
: Score! 1 out of 6

Bratz:
Will It Bomb? I’m not a fan of those dolls, so you can imagine what I thought of the movie. Sorry. Since the kids like them, their parents would probably bring them to see it. Low end of the 10.
Did It Bomb?: Dead last on the Top 10 list, revenue of $4.21 mill. Yeah, it’s a bomb.
***Box office tally and position according to the Hollywood Reporter (hollywoodreporter.com) and IMDB.com***
Outcome: Score! 2 out of 6

El Cantante:
Will It Bomb?: The second biopic of the weekend features the man that brought salsa into everyone’s soul. Starring Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez, I was a bit wary about how they would mesh together onscreen as well as the amount of viewers. Probable lower half of the 10.
Did It Bomb? $3.3 million dollars made and a #12 spot. Modest take, I’d say.
***Box office tally and position according to the Hollywood Reporter and IMDB.com***
Outcome: Mezza-mezza. 2 ½ out of 6.

Hot Rod:
Will It Bomb? Andy Samberg, of SNL fame, branches out of TV as a wannabe stuntman. Given his lack of film roles, and that he’s still starting out, this will probably hit the lower half of the 10.
Did It Bomb? $5.31 million and a #9 spot. It’s ended up where I thought it would.
***Box office tally and position according to the Hollywood Reporter (hollywoodreporter.com)and IMDB.com***
Outcome: Score! 3 ½ out of 6.

The Bourne Ultimatum:
Will It Bomb? Matt Damon. Jason Bourne. Third movie. Buckets of dough!!! Guaranteed Top 10, probable Top 5.
Did It Bomb? Top spot, guys! $69.3 million!!! Excellent!
***Box office tally and position according to the Hollywood Reporter (hollywoodreporter. com) and IMDB.com***
Outcome: Score! 4 ½ out of 6
Underdog:

Will It Bomb? Another remake of a cartoon classic. With the surge of retro flicks made new with the live action/CGI combo, I thought that it would bring in the cash. Will make the 10, possibly the five.
Did It Bomb? $11.6 million and the #3 place. Great!
***Box office tally and position according to the Hollywood Reporter (hollywoodreporter.com) and IMDB.com***
Outcome: Score! 5 ½ out of 6

And there you have it for this week! Check back later on in the week for the latest chapter of the one and only WIB?! DIB? will be back early next week, as always! I’m looking forward to it already!

You have no idea how happy it makes me that El Cantante didn’t even make the top 10.

I think I can only handle one Jane Austen movie, and I’m holding out for The Jane Austen Book Club.
