Did It Bomb? Weekend of 9/14/07

Hello, all!

Welcome to this week’s installment of DIB?! We’ve got a few surprises for you, so scroll on down and see how the films did this past weekend!

Across the Universe: Awesome cinematography, effects, and animation flow alongside the music of the Beatles!.
Will It Bomb? Possible Top 10 showing!
Did It Bomb? This first run was in limited release, but it had a pretty impressive take of over $667,000. We’ll see how it does this coming weekend!
Outcome: To be continued… But, so far, so good!

Eastern Promises: Viggo Mortensen’s in Russian organized crime. Naomi Watts is a London midwife. What could possibly connect them? More than you know, kids!
Will It Bomb? It will make the 10, and possibly the 5.
Did It Bomb? With this also in limited release, this did very well, too. A bit over $547,000 earned!
Outcome: To be continued…But, so far, so good!

In The Valley of Elah (Limited Release) A missing soldier’s father bands together with an investigating officer to get all of the answers
Will It Bomb? Limited Release, but should show some financial strength.
Did It Bomb? Again, limited release, but pretty strong opener! A take of over $133,500, at this time.
Outcome: To be continued…But, so far, so good!

Mr. Woodcock: A self-help author taunted by his high school gym teacher “fights back” when said teacher hooks up with his mother.
Will It Bomb? : I think it’ll bring in some money, and will hit the lower half of the Top 10.
Did It Bomb? It performed much better than I thought it would! #3 spot, with a take of $8.8 million.
Outcome: Mezza-mezza. ½ out of 5.

The Brave One: Jodie Foster plays another tough cookie. This time, she has the battle of her life, when she and her lover are brutally attacked. Then, she undergoes a phenomenal transformation. Oooh, what do you think that’ll be like?
Will It Bomb? Should hit the 10, for sure, possible shot at the 5.
Did It Bomb? She pulled it off, again! Top of the list, with $13.5 million!
Outcome: Score! 1 ½ out of 5

***Official Box Office tallies and positions according to Variety (variety.com), The Hollywood Reporter (hollywoodreporter.com) and the Internet Movie Database (imdb.com).

Well, guys… Since the majority of the films featured in this edition have yet to be distributed widely, it looks like we need to extend those three films to the next chapter. Come on back early next week, where this second round meets the newcomers. Don’t forget! WIB? comes back later this week with all those newbies! Catch you then!

  1. Mike commented:

In fairness to Mr Woodcock, on a week where the #1 movie only makes $13M, it’s not hard to slip into the 3rd place spot.

What a sad week for movies. I’m completely indifferent about Jodie Foster. I haven’t really liked anything she’s done since Silences of the Lambs, but that’s just me.

    Panic Room was pretty good.
