Original Rocky Horror Picture Show writer (and director and star) Richard O’Brien is not involved in the MTV-funded remake, nor will he give it his blessing. This really shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone. O’Brien created Rocky Horror and MTV wants to re-create it and even (horror of all horrors) add new music.
O’Brien spoke with BBC News and says:
I have no view on whether it should be remade but it doesn’t have my blessing…I’m not co-producing it and I won’t be involved in any way. The first I heard about it was when people sent me cuttings from US papers.
Sadly, I have a feeling that the lack of the original creator’s blessing isn’t going to stop this film from being made.
