One of the most important parts of a movie is its music. With that in mind, we’re starting a new article on MovieSnobs called Movie Tunes.
The first movie soundtrack I’d like to share with you is the Underworld Soundtrack from 2003. The movie starred Kate Beckinsale and Scott Speedman and was one of the finest pieces of vampire/werewolf storytelling in the past ten years. The soundtrack, while contributing to the movie, has a life of its own.
The album starts strong with “Awakening” by The Damning Well, which is a mash-up of artists from other bands (including the ubiquitous drummer Josh Freese). Continuing on through “REV 22:20″ featuring Maynard James Keenan of Tool and A Perfect Circle, “Throwing Punches,” and several short tracks from Renholder, the album rocks from start to finish. Even the quieter tracks, such as Trust Company’s “Hover (Quiet Mix)”, have a building intensity that leads you back to the hard rocking tracks.
Tracks you can’t miss:
- Track 6 – “Disco King (Loner Mix)” by David Bowie with Maynard James Keenan
- Track 9 – “Judith (Renholder Mix)” by A Perfect Circle
- Track 16 – “From A Shell” by Lisa Germano
It’s probably my favorite CD to listen to while driving, and absolutely one of my favorites to take along with me to the gym on my mp3 player. If you don’t already have it, you should pick it up now.
Stay tuned for my next soundtrack review: The Punisher.
