  Russell Brand as Frank-N-Furter?

The rumor is that British comedian Russell Brand (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) is the favorite to play Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the upcoming remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Tim Curry played the part of the transsexual transvestite scientist in the original film and was spectacular. Brand was funny in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, but I’m not sure he can do the Rocky Horror role justice. Then again, I don’t have much faith in the remake to begin with.

Anyone think Brand can fill Tim Curry’s enormous high heels?

Brad Pitt Confirmed For Inglorious Bastards

Yesterday we learned that B.J. Novak was cast in Quentin Tarantino’s war movie Inglorious Bastards. Horror director Eli Roth (Hostel, Cabin Fever) was also cast. Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio were rumored.

Brad Pitt is now confirmed to join the cast.

  Casting for Tarantino’s Inglorious Bastards

While some people are confused at the casting choices for Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming movie titled Inglorious Bastards, I’m just psyched to see The Office star B.J. Novak getting movie roles. Novak was recently cast, as was horror director Eli Roth. Superstars Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio are rumored (on IMDb) to be next.

Inglorious Bastards is scheduled for June of 2009 and is a Nazi-era war movie. B

Bryce Dallas Howard Joins Terminator 4 Cast

Red-headed beauty Bryce Dallas Howard has joined the cast of Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins. Total Film reports that she’ll be playing Kate Connor, a character originated by Claire Danes who was originally named Kate Brewster.

Howard was fabulous in The Village, a little weird in Lady in the Water, and pretty average in Spider-Man 3.

  Rainn Wilson in Transformers 2

The MTV Movies Blog has news about The Office star Rainn Wilson joining the cast of Transformers 2. He’ll be playing a college professor, but won’t reveal much more than that. Although he jokes that he’s playing, “a professor that turns into a car that turns into a robot.”

Jake Gyllenhaal Starring in Video Game Movie

I don’t know much about the Prince of Persia video game, other than I can’t figure out how to play it on my cell phone. Rope of Silicon says Jake Gyllenhaal is slated to play the titular prince. The movie has the prince pairing with a princess (naturally) to rescue the “Sands of Time” (before a bad guy gets it, I would assume).

Nic Cage Will Be a Bad Lieutenant

Werner Herzog (Rescue Dawn) is directing a remake of the 1992 film Bad Lieutenant (originally starring Harvey Keitel) with Nic Cage in the title role. The original movie received an NC-17 rating for following the police officer who was involved in, “drugs, gambling, sex and stealing,” according to Variety.

The new movie is set to start shooting late this summer.

Jason Segel Promises Age-Appropriate Muppets Movie

Ever since we found out that Forgetting Sarah Marshall scribe and star of How I Met Your Mother Jason Segel was slated to write a new Muppets movie, we’ve been wondering if he could tone down his comedy to a PG level. In an interview with the MTV Movies Blog, Segel responds,

When I get into Muppet mode I turn into a 12-year-old boy. I think them seeing me in those meetings, they had no doubt I would be OK with the tone.

Segel also reveals a special guest star for the movie - Charles Grodin, star of The Great Muppet Caper.

Jonah Hill Not in Transformers 2

The Transformers 2 casting rumor that Jonah Hill was going to play Shia LaBeouf’s sidekick actually turned out to be semi-true. For a while, Hill was in talks to play the role. Unfortunately, EW.com reports that the talks have broken down.

I’m bummed for a couple of reasons. One, I’m a little tired of Shia LaBeouf and I thought Jonah Hill would be a nice scene stealer. And two, it would give Hill a chance to practice his PG-13 humor.

Ellen Page to Take on Jane Eyre

What’s the fastest way for Ellen Page to put her Juno past behind her before she gets typecast? Star in a movie based on a stuffy British novel, that’s how.

Page will step into the role of Jane Eyre, according to Total Film. We’ll get to see just how talented the young actress really is.

Demetri Martin Cast in a Movie

First of all, if you don’t know who Demetri Martin is, watch this YouTube video of one of his performances put to video:

(my personal favorite joke is at about 8:20)

Now you know why I’m so excited that he’s been cast in a movie. Obsessed With Film says he’s been cast in Taking Woodstock. He’ll play an in-the-closet gay guy who inadvertently sets the Woodstock Music Festival in motion.

He also has small roles in The Rocker (starring Rainn Wilson) and The Post Grad Survival Guide (starring Alexis Bledel).

The Descent 2 In the Works

I don’t think I can do this again. The Descent was one of the scariest movies I’ve seen in recent years. From the enclosed spaces and the darkness to the hideous creatures and that God-awful sound they make, just about every second was scary.

Bloody Disgusting has the news on the casting for The Descent 2. Shauna MacDonald and Natalie Mendoza are returning from the original cast, and they will be joined by Gavan O’Herlihy, Joshua Dallas, Anna Skellern, Douglas Hodge, and Krysten Cummings (all people I’ve never heard of).

I’m not necessarily against a sequel - I don’t think the movie needs a sequel, but that’s never stopped movie-makers before. I just don’t think I can sit through another claustrophobic minute of that setting. I even bought the first one on DVD, and never watched it.
