Did It Bomb? Weekend of 2/8/08

All right, kids! Another weekend, another Box Office run. Let’s take a look at how my predictions from last week fared, shall we?

Welcome to this week’s edition of DIB?!

Fool’s Gold: Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson made such a great romantic comedy couple, that they decided to give it another go. They may be estranged, but the lure of sunken treasure may reignite the sparks between them!
Will It Bomb? I’m banking that Miley Cyrus won’t be toppled from the top spot, but this will land in the Top 5 anyway. I’m betting on the #2 slot.
Did It Bomb? It looks like Miley lost her crown! It hit #1 and brought in $22 million. Nice haul!
Outcome: Mezza-mezza, ½ out of 4.

  Will It Bomb? 2/8/08

The weekend is finally here, kids! You know that means new flicks are coming right at you! What have you got to look forward to? What has no chance of making a dollar? Of course, you’ve come to the right place to find out!

Onto this week’s installment of WIB?!
Fool’s Gold: Apparently Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey’s onscreen chemistry was so strong in How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days, that they decided to make another go at it, as a couple on the frays of divorce. No it’s not War of the Roses or anything! They team up to find a nice sunken treasure and possibly getting cozy again!
Will It Bomb? Another RomCom, eh? I think it will do very well! Top 5 status for sure, with my bet on #2. I don’t think Miley’s coming out of the #1 spot anytime soon.

In Bruges (Limited Release): Hanging out in a small Belgian town isn’t exactly Colin Farrell’s cup of tea. As a hitman laying low there with his partner, no one is sure what to expect. From what the trailer shows, it’s “let’s get shot at a little bit” then “let’s see what this little town has to offer”.
Will It Bomb? This looks like something that will be a bit of an acquired taste, since Farrell’s comedic banter isn’t usually the focus of his parts. Since it’s in Limited Release for this stretch, that will set the tone. I think it will make a decent amount regardless.

Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins: Martin Lawrence left his unusual brood behind and became a hot talk show host in L.A. and now he’s on his way back to the fam and his hometown to show himself off. A concept we’ve been witness to before, without a doubt. Honestly, the gross-out moment for me involved Mo’Nique putting her feet on that kitchen table. I have no interest in eating after seeing that. Until I become hungry again, that is.
Will It Bomb? The marketing efforts for this and the following flick have been going like gangbusters, so this should bring in some bank. I think this will get into the #4 or #5 spot, since the current films are getting a bit stale.

Wild West Comedy Show: 30 Days & 30 Nights-Hollywood to the Heartland: While the title of this flick is probably one of the longest I’ve ever seen (Borat still holds the record, I think), there really isn’t a ton to say. The title says it all. Vince Vaughn grabs a bunch of comedians for a month long, 30-date tour across the country, complete with craziness galore! Nice cameo by Jon Favreau, too!
Will It Bomb? I think this will be nice way for Vince Vaughn fans to see him out more in the “real world” rather than putting on a persona. At any rate, it will make a modest amount of dough. Middle of the 10, I believe.

That’s going to be all for this week! Come on back early next week for all the lovely results over at DIB? WIB? is back late next week with the newbies! Have a great weekend!
