When I saw Taken a few weeks ago, I knew it was going to be the number one movie on its opening weekend. It’s a fantastic flick, and the amount of trailer runnings on every station that TV has to offer certainly helped.
Taken knocks Paul Blart: Mall Cop out of its top sport, that it held for the past two weeks.
The top 5 movies, by box office take, this weekend:
- Taken – $24.6 million
- Paul Blart: Mall Cop – $14 million
- The Uninvited – $10.5 million
- Hotel for Dogs – $8.7 million
- Gran Torino – $8.6 million

Further proof that people prefer a silly laugh over a deep, meaningful movie – Paul Blart: Mall Cop was number one at the box office over the weekend. I had planned to go see it, seeing as how it was filmed at “my” mall, but just never got around to it. It could have something to do with the foot of snow that fell over the weekend, or it could have something to do with the fact that I’m lazy. Here’s the weekend boxoffice take:
- Paul Blart: Mall Cop – $33.8M
- Gran Torino – $22.2M
- My Bloody Valentine 3-D – $21.9M
- Notorious – $21.5M
- Hotel for Dogs – $17.7M
- Bride Wars – $11.8M
- The Unborn – $9.85M
- Defiance – $9.21M
- Marley & Me – $6.3M
- Slumdog Millionaire – $5.9M
