Comedic Genius Allison Janney In Two New Comedies

Allison Janney is one funny lady. She was excellent in Juno, and hilarious in 10 Things I Hate About You.

Empire Online has all the details on Allison Janney’s two new comedies. The first is This Must Be The Place, which also stars the adorable John Krasinski.

The second is (unfortunately) an Eddie Murphy movie called A Thousand Words. The premise sounds interesting - Eddie plays a man who learns he has only 1,000 words left to say before he dies. But we all know Eddie can’t make a funny movie anymore.

I’ll definitely be checking out the first, since I’ll watch anything with John Krasinski in it (including License to Wed). Janney’s a scene-stealer in any movie she’s in, so I might have to check out the Eddie Murphy movie anyway.

  New Review: Leatherheads

Christine watched the George Clooney / John Krasinski football comedy Leatherheads. She says,

I liked the movie, but I didn’t love it…The movie is funny, but not laugh-out-loud funny. It doesn’t focus enough on either the romance or the football to be strictly a romantic comedy or strictly a sports movie. The slapstick scenes, however, are perfectly executed.

I Love You, Man - Funniest Actor

There’s no doubt that I Love You, Man is going to be a funny movie. The cast is fantastic, and the premise is an easy setup for both big laughs and a heartwarming ending. But what I’m having a hard time deciding, is who’s going to be the funniest one of them all?

Jason Segel has proven himself hilarious time and again on How I Met Your Mother, and his upcoming movie Forgetting Sarah Marshall looks funny as well. On the other hand, Paul Rudd never fails to steal a scene from anyone he’s in a movie with.

Then we have the ladies. Both Rashida Jones and Jaime Pressley are extremely talented comedic actresses. Jones was a great straight-woman off of John Krasinski’s Jim Halpert on The Office, and Pressley is one of the highlights of My Name Is Earl (especially now that Earl’s in a coma and we’ve strayed from The List).

Since I can’t decide, who do you think is going to be the funniest one?

Who is going to be the funniest cast member in I Love You, Man?

  Will It Bomb? 4/4/08

It’s Friday, everybody! TGIF! Now it’s time to relax from the crazy goings-on all week, and possibly make a trip to the cinema! Even better, with Spring and Summer being my two favorite seasons, how stoked am I that the seasonal blockbusters are coming? So, with that being said, what have you got on the horizon this weekend? Will they rake it in, or take the loss?

Welcome to this week’s installment of WIB?! Here we go!

Leatherheads: Granted I like football, but combining it with those old screwball comedies? Interesting… Taking place in the 1920s, and starring George Clooney, John Krasinski, and Renee Zellweger, the movie shows a time when football as we now know it was in its infancy (the title refers to those spiffy caps worn back then). Two members of the squad are not only trying to help mold the sport, but end up falling for the same woman! Chuckles! Being in a film with these Hollywood heavyweights might be doing Krasinski some good! This could lead to quite a push for more big screen roles!
Will It Bomb? Considering that this is an attempted return to a genre that has been out of circulation for a long time, this may not get too much of good rap by the modern generation. If anything, this should get a nibble, but only enough to make either the #8 or #9 slot.

Nim’s Island: Two actors who are just forging into kid-friendly films star alongside a juvenile actress who could end up with a career just as stellar as her co-stars. Abigail Breslin stars as a girl who lives on an island with her scientist father (Gerard Butler). She spends her days yukking it up with him and her animal friends. Daddy then disappears, and then enter, Jodie Foster! Foster’s connection seems pretty vague in the trailer, but if I nose around for spoilers, I might find out some more juicy stuff!
Will It Bomb? While I hope that Butler and Foster go back into doing mature roles, it’s nice to see them branch out! This film is something for the children! That will absolutely bring this into the middle of the 10, and possibly edge into the Top 5! This will be the movie for that target market for the next couple of weeks!

Shine a Light: The Rolling Stones combined ages are probably at least close to, if not over, 250 years, but in my book, they still rock! Directed by Martin Scorsese, this showcases The Stones “A Bigger Bang” tour both on and off of the stage, and it looks like they rip it up harder and better every time they perform! They have more energy now than 30 years ago!
Will It Bomb? One of the world’s biggest directors and one of the world’s greatest bands? That’s definitely money in the bank. This has an extremely good chance of getting into the 10, thanks to the baby boomers and younger fans!

The Ruins: Spare me! For those of you who haven’t been around since the beginning of my stint with MovieSnobs, my first review was for a flick called Turistas. Does anyone remember that? I didn’t think so! This is a total rip-off of that crapfest, but instead of the jungles of Brazil, this takes place in the jungles of Mexico, specifically by a Mayan temple. Again, a bunch of dippy vacationing collegiates decide to wander from their comfortable surroundings to the scary “real world” where they run screaming for dear life. Bad move! To add even more insult to injury, I’ve only heard of one cast member: Jena Malone.
Will It Bomb? Absolutely! You couldn’t pay me enough money to go and see this dreck, and no one else will either! This will hit the rock bottom of the Top 10, if at all!

There you have it! All the dirt you need and want. Come on back early in the week for all the recaps you can handle over at DIB?! Have a great weekend!
