  Will It Bomb? 2/1/08

Happy Friday, everyone! This weekend may be a biggie in the sports world as our beloved Patriots take on the Giants at the Super Bowl, but it’s always a race to the top in Movie Land! That’s right, kids! Welcome to this week’s installment of WIB?!

Now, are the films that the studios are releasing this week up to snuff? Or are you better off staying home and flipping the channels?

Take a look!

The Eye: For once it’s not Sarah Michelle Gellar doing a Japanese remake! This time it’s Jessica Alba. Hey, somebody new! As a recipient of a corneal transplant, Alba gets her sight back, but also gets the kind of visions not many of us would care to see. Yep, it’s the scary and supernatural kind. Whoopee.
Will It Bomb? It’s debatable. While the remake game will always be in play, and the desire for another psychological shocker is apparent, I am not thrilled with the choice for the lead (we all know that SMG and Naomi Watts are the queens of this genre). However, I think that some revenue will come in. It’ll probably get in the mid-to-low end of the 10, shuffling along with Strange Wilderness (see below).

Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour: Beloved by many fans, Miley Cyrus is now the new Princess of Pop! While every kid and preteen has undoubtedly every song of hers memorized, that won’t stop them from going to the show. Alongside the Jonas Brothers, this is the official concert film: perfect for those who were unable to attend or for those who want to experience it again.
Will It Bomb? This will be the children’s movie of the week, if not the month. It will make the Top 5 for sure! I am absolutely positive about that!

Over Her Dead Body: Although she is best-known for her role on Desperate Housewives, many of you may be unaware that Eva Longoria Parker has a daytime soap background. In this particular film, she portrays a ghost who can’t accept that her boyfriend (Paul Rudd) has moved on to another relationship and tries to wreck it. Oh yeah, that just screams soap opera!
Will It Bomb? Unfortunately, yes. With this being produced, her people obviously want to score her more leading roles in feature films, but this choice may not have been great. If it even make it’s in, it will be on the low end of the Top 10.

Strange Wilderness: While Adam Sandler’s comedy roles have been put on the backburner for a little while, his production company has put out something that totally fits into what we’ve come to know and love about him. Starring Allen Covert (hilarious in The Wedding Singer clad in his “Beat It” jacket and sporting a hairstyle that’s a cross-breed of a pompadour and a mullet), Steve Zahn and Superbad star, Jonah Hill, while trying to salvage their floundering local wildlife show, the production team decides to track down the most elusive creature known to man: Bigfoot!
Will It Bomb? Anyone who loves a film’s sidekicks more than the leads will be running toward this! For those that need a good laugh and either saw or skipped Meet the Spartans, you may have a great alternative. All in all, I vote middle to low end of the Top 10.

That’s going to do it for this week, my friends! I will be back early next week with the official rundown of the results over at DIB?! WIB? returns next week, as always, with the newest flicks, be they great or be they grotesque! I will see you all then!

Sadly, the Miley Cyrus movie has already broken records for movie ticket presales: see IMDb.
