Will It Bomb? Weekend of 5/9/08

Hello everyone! Well, the weather up here in New England is crazy, as usual. The constant changes in temperature around here are par for the course, but I know what many of you are thinking of doing this weekend! The cinemas are calling to you! As always, you’ve got lots of choices, but which ones will give you more bang for your buck?

Check out the latest edition of WIB?! Here we go!

Redbelt: This isn’t some lowbrow action flick with nothing but fight scenes for the entire time! David Mamet directs this drama about a mixed martial arts fighter who is dealing with many issues. Costarring Tim Allen and Joe Mantegna, among the oodles of subplot, you have financial issues, a rigged competition, a woman searching for self-confidence, and even a has-been actor trying to make it big again. What a mouthful!
Will It Bomb? I haven’t heard a lot of buzz about this, considering the industry is focused on Iron Man (and rightly so), so I doubt it will get into the 10, but it should make a decent amount.

Speed Racer: How do you top The Matrix? The Wachowskis have returned with their take on a cartoon classic. Do you know what it is? I don’t think I need to tell you too much about it, since the trailer pretty much gives it to you. In yet another remake, Emile Hirsch plays our racing hero living in his high-octane, neon-colored world, where giving up his dream isn’t an option. Losing isn’t one, either! The supporting cast is very solid: Matthew Fox, John Goodman, Christina Ricci, and one of cinema’s grand dames, Susan Sarandon.
Will It Bomb? There is no way on earth that this will overtake the #1 film. It’s just not happening. Still, this will probably get into at least the low, low section of the 5.

What Happens in Vegas
: As everybody pretty much knows, Las Vegas is o the place where people go to leave their lives behind, whether they’re mundane, cluttered, or just plain lousy. That’s the case for Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher. They each suffer some hardships and take a mini vacay to renew themselves. Only, as history has shown, Vegas + drunkness = marriage. Obviously they want to break up, but something will temporarily keep them together: a $3 million jackpot! Through a judge’s ruling forcing them to stay married, both sabotage each other’s lives and comfort for the dough. But, are they really into each other?
Will It Bomb? I’ll say it again! Iron Man is way too hot, so I think this will simply slide into the middle of the 10.

That’ll do it for this installment, friends! Now, my last two columns have resulted in perfect predictions, so can I make it a third? Cross your fingers, toes, and eyes that it will! So, be sure to come back early next week for the official recap over at DIB? I will see you all then!
