Did It Bomb? Weekend of 8/24/07

Hello all! Here we are ready to go with another chapter of DIB?! I threw out my predictions on how last week’s releases were going to fare. If you recall, my assessments were quite off , so hopefully I got myself out of that little slump.

So did they measure up to my expectations? Were they all that I hoped for? Did they disappoint? Did they surprise? How about we all find out…Now!

Illegal Tender:
Will It Bomb? Not a lot of dough, but a little something. Lower end of the 10, if it gets in.
Did It Bomb? Yeah. That’s a safe bet. With earnings of a little over $1.2 million, and a #16 spot, it tanked.
***Box office tally and position according to Variety (variety.com), the Hollywood Reporter (hollywoodreporter.com) and IMDB.com***
Outcome: Mezza-mezza. ½ out of 6
Mr. Bean’s Holiday:
Will It Bomb? Mr. Bean (Rowan Atkinson is always at his best as this character) has returned to the big screen and hits the south of France like a hurricane. Mid-to-low end of the 10.
Did It Bomb? $9.86 million and a #4 position?! Wow! It did better than I imagined!
***Box office tally and position according to Variety (variety.com), The Hollywood Reporter (hollywoodreporter.com) and IMDB.com***
Outcome: Mezza-mezza. 1 out 6

Resurrecting the Champ:

Will It Bomb? All hype and with a rehashed plot. Money-wise, I think that it won’t bring any in. Probably won’t get on the 10.
Did It Bomb? Another clunker. #15 spot, with a smidge over $1.65 million made. Apparently no one wanted to resurrect this.
***Box office tally and position according to Variety (variety.com), the Hollywood Reporter (hollywoodreporter.com) and IMDB.com***
Outcome: Score! 2 out of 6

September Dawn:
Will It Bomb? With a movie that doesn’t exactly portray Mormons in a pleasing light, it will probably bomb. I don’t think anyone is terribly interested.
Did It Bomb? Definitely! Now here was a movie that hardly made a dent! It barely cleared $901,000 and was officially positioned at #21.
***Box office tally and position according to Variety (variety.com), the Hollywood Reporter (hollywoodreporter.com) and IMDB.com***
Outcome: Score! 3 out of 6

The Nanny Diaries:
Will It Bomb? Cool, young nanny meets the uptight mom. It should get a Top 10 placement.
Did It Bomb? It earned $7.48 million and settled into a nice little spot, at #6.
***Box office tally and position according to Variety (variety.com), the Hollywood Reporter (hollywoodreporter.com) and IMDB.com***
Outcome: Score! 4 out of 6

War:
Will It Bomb?
Jason Statham. Jet Li. Enough said. It’ll hit the Top 10, probable Top 5.
Did It Bomb? What do you think?! It came in at #5, with $9.82 million, getting slightly edged by Mr. Bean. Very good!
***Box office tally and position according to Variety (variety.com), the Hollywood Reporter (hollywoodreporter.com) and IMDB.com***
Outcome: Score! 5 out of 6

Well, kids! I’ve officially regained my momentum from last week! How great is that? Come on back this Thursday where I’ll dish about this weekend’s upcoming releases, over at WIB?! DIB? follows , as always, early next week with the wrap-up! I can’t contain it! I’m stoked already! See you then!

Well done this week. Although I am surprised at the Resurrecting the Champ results. I would think a flick starring Sammy L. and Josh Hartnett would rake in the cash.

Then again, I’m a huge fan of both and even I didn’t go see it (yet).
