“Nobody Puts Baby in the Corner” Except Lionsgate is reporting that Lionsgate Films has filed suit against 15 companies selling t-shirts with the famous quote from Dirty Dancing. Apparently, being named as one of the American Film Institute’s most popular quotes from a motion picture made Lionsgate suddenly realize that other people were making money off their intellectual property.

In light of recent events, if you’re a Dirty Dancing fanatic, I suggest you get a tee while you still can…

They should license them already!! :)

Well the reason they’re suing is because they’re not making money off the sale of the shirts and merchandise – they didn’t license it to the companies they’re suing.

I was 10 when that came out! I thought it was the coolest thing back then! I should hope that my taste in film has gotten better since 1987. If you recall, they had a big re-release in theaters this past Spring for the 20th anniversary. I would think they had a big party for the 10th anniversary (I can’t recall), right? They made more money off that, I assume. That’s different? No, it’s not. Still, we like to remember cool things from our childhood, so I don’t see why they’re raising so much hell about it!

I think it if wasn’t for all the other people putting this slogan on their products, no one would care about the movie. Let’s face it, the movie wasn’t all that good anyway.

Oh, come on! So many other film production companies license their products so they can make more money! Nostalgia sells!
