Just Like Heaven Review

Just Like Heaven is a sweet romantic comedy. Unbelievable and impossible, but incredibly sweet. Mark Ruffalo is David, a man haunted by the spirit of Elizabeth, played by Reese Witherspoon. The two make an interesting pair. He has the straight out of bed crumpled look about him, and she’s as perfect as a porcelain doll.

Elizabeth starts showing up at the apartment David is subletting, where she used to live. She doesn’t believe she’s dead, and he tries to convince her otherwise. Joined by Jon Heder as a slacker-type with “the gift,” David and Elizabeth try to figure out a way out of their current situation.

It’s funny at times, but sometimes grasps at straws to get the laugh (for example, with an overdramatic failed exorcism). The lack of genuine comedy is more than made up for with the romantic, heartfelt side of the movie. Boys beware, this is a total chick flick. But as a chick flick, it rates high on my list. Remember the scene in The Wedding Singer when Robbie sings to Julia on the plane? And every time you watch it you want to cry? That’s how the last half hour of this movie is.

Definitely worth it. If you don’t have time to get to the theater, add it to your Netflix queue right now.
