As much as I wanted to hate this movie, going into it, I just couldn’t. As much as I dislike most of the roles Jennifer Lopez plays, I didn’t mind this one so much. I can’t say I remember ever seeing anything with Jane Fonda in it, but she’s great at the evil Mother-in-law role. Almost to the point that you actually hate this woman for what she’s doing. Now that’s talent.
Though the “main” cast (Jennifer Lopez, Michael Vartan, and Jane Fonda) were all excellent, I think that the person who stole the shoe was Wanda Sykes. This woman is by far one of the most hilarious people alive. Everything she says is pure comedy, not just in this role, but most everything she does. Bringing extra comedy relief to this movie was a nice surprise. Wanda plays Ruby, the assistant to Fonda‘s character, and based on what they imply in the movie, she’s been with Fonda‘s character for a number of years. The history that’s implied between the two of them allow for numerous jokes, without pulling any punches.
I’m glad I got to watch this movie. Though some guys would label it as a chick flick, and it really was, it’s an overall decent movie, with some good laughs, and a good story to boot. There’s a touchy feely moment at the end of the movie, which as a guy I could have done without. But overall, I have no gripes about this movie. I found myself laughing outloud at times, which is rare for anything starring Jennifer Lopez. I’d say if you’d like to see a cute movie that’ll make you laugh, check this one out, it’s not something that’ll disappoint.
