Overall a pretty decent movie. While some would say, myself included, that Quantum of Solace doesn’t live up to Casino Royale, it’s still a pretty great movie. Quantum has everything you’ve come to expect from a Bond film; explosions, fights, gun battles, women, and James Bond. What more could you ask for?
Well, a better storyline might be one thing. I for one, felt bored at times. I kept thinking “okay okay okay, I get it. Blow something up now. Thanks.” I just felt like there was too much downtime during the course of the movie. Though, in retrospect, I felt the same way about Casino Royale.
The latest revival of the Bond series doesn’t live up to the previous films in the franchise. It’s a good action movie, don’t get me wrong, but it’s certainly not going to be hailed as the best Bond movie ever.
I like Daniel Craig as Bond. I think he’s a good fit with the character, and the persona of Bond. Craig does a fantastic job in the role this time around, as he did last time. As an actor, stepping in those gigantic shoes must be a pretty intimidating thing. Craig does it gracefully, as usual. The “Bond girls” this time were just, I don’t know, there? I didn’t feel any special connection with them. They were just eye candy. I’m sure there’s more to the story than I got, but at times I felt like I was dozing off during the “downtime” in the film.
Dame Judi Dench is, as always, perfect as M. I don’t think there’s a role that Judi Dench couldn’t play. I buy her as anything she acts as, without question.
A lot of people have already seen this movie, and the other reviews are pretty mixed. I’ll offer the following advice: if you liked Casino Royale, and you’re a fan of the Bond movies, definitely check out Quantum of Solace. It may not be the best movie you’ll see this year (cough cough The Dark Knight), but it’s certainly a couple hours well spent.”
