  Segel Promises Age-Appropriate Muppets
Posted by: Christine on May 8th, 2008 Leave a Comment »

Ever since we found out that Forgetting Sarah Marshall scribe and star of How I Met Your Mother Jason Segel was slated to write a new Muppets movie, we’ve been wondering if he could tone down his comedy to a PG level. In an interview with the MTV Movies Blog, Segel responds,

When I get into Muppet mode I turn into a 12-year-old boy. I think them seeing me in those meetings, they had no doubt I would be OK with the tone.

Segel also reveals a special guest star for the movie – Charles Grodin, star of The Great Muppet Caper.

Jonah Hill Not in Transformers 2

The Transformers 2 casting rumor that Jonah Hill was going to play Shia LaBeouf’s sidekick actually turned out to be semi-true. For a while, Hill was in talks to play the role. Unfortunately, reports that the talks have broken down.

I’m bummed for a couple of reasons. One, I’m a little tired of Shia LaBeouf and I thought Jonah Hill would be a nice scene stealer. And two, it would give Hill a chance to practice his PG-13 humor.

What’s the fastest way for Ellen Page to put her Juno past behind her before she gets typecast? Star in a movie based on a stuffy British novel, that’s how.

Page will step into the role of Jane Eyre, according to Total Film. We’ll get to see just how talented the young actress really is.

Demetri Martin Cast in a Movie

First of all, if you don’t know who Demetri Martin is, watch this YouTube video of one of his performances put to video:

(my personal favorite joke is at about 8:20)

Now you know why I’m so excited that he’s been cast in a movie. Obsessed With Film says he’s been cast in Taking Woodstock. He’ll play an in-the-closet gay guy who inadvertently sets the Woodstock Music Festival in motion.

He also has small roles in The Rocker (starring Rainn Wilson) and The Post Grad Survival Guide (starring Alexis Bledel).

The Descent 2 In the Works

I don’t think I can do this again. The Descent was one of the scariest movies I’ve seen in recent years. From the enclosed spaces and the darkness to the hideous creatures and that God-awful sound they make, just about every second was scary.

Bloody Disgusting has the news on the casting for The Descent 2. Shauna MacDonald and Natalie Mendoza are returning from the original cast, and they will be joined by Gavan O’Herlihy, Joshua Dallas, Anna Skellern, Douglas Hodge, and Krysten Cummings (all people I’ve never heard of).

I’m not necessarily against a sequel – I don’t think the movie needs a sequel, but that’s never stopped movie-makers before. I just don’t think I can sit through another claustrophobic minute of that setting. I even bought the first one on DVD, and never watched it.

  Transformers 2 Casting Rumor

Jonah Hill in Transformers 2Jonah Hill. No joke, IESB has the rumor along with the description from the casting sheet of the character rumored to be played by Jonah Hill.

[CHUCK] 19-25 yrs., Sam’s roommate at Princeton. He runs a conspiracy theory website. Funny in an irreverent, edgy way, he is shocked to see his conspiracy theories come to life. (2nd Lead)

I think Hill would be an excellent addition to the cast, and will definitely give Shia LaBeouf a run for his money and will absolutely be a scene-stealer.

Adding to the casting news for Angels & Demons is Ewan McGregor who has been cast as Camerlengo Carlo Ventresca, according to Reuters. This news follows yesterday’s news that Ayelet Zurer was cast as Vittoria Vetra (although we’re still not sure what happened to the news that Naomi Watts had been cast in the same role).

Mekhi Phifer Returns to the Big Screen

Mekhi Phifer in New MovieER‘s Doctor Greg Pratt will be returning to the big screen soon, according to Mekhi Phifer, who has played Dr. Pratt for the past six years, will star in Hunter’s Moon, the story of a father and son on a hunting trip. During the trip, the son is kidnapped and the father has to carry out the kidnapper’s wishes to get his son back.

Phifer is most likely branching out due to the impending end of ER next season. I’ve been a big fan of his work both as Doctor Pratt and in movies like O and Dawn of the Dead. I’m looking forward to seeing him in movies again.
