Katy saw the comedy In Bruges starring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson as hitmen. She says,
Keep in mind that while it has some somewhat thoughtful moments, this was a comedy…Surprisingly, Farrell can pull off comedy! He should try it more often. I truly enjoyed this film, and I think you will, too! Plan a trip to see this!
All right, kids! Another weekend, another Box Office run. Let’s take a look at how my predictions from last week fared, shall we?
Welcome to this week’s edition of DIB?!
Fool’s Gold:Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson made such a great romantic comedy couple, that they decided to give it another go. They may be estranged, but the lure of sunken treasure may reignite the sparks between them! Will It Bomb? I’m banking that Miley Cyrus won’t be toppled from the top spot, but this will land in the Top 5 anyway. I’m betting on the #2 slot. Did It Bomb? It looks like Miley lost her crown! It hit #1 and brought in $22 million. Nice haul!
Outcome: Mezza-mezza, ½ out of 4.
The weekend is finally here, kids! You know that means new flicks are coming right at you! What have you got to look forward to? What has no chance of making a dollar? Of course, you’ve come to the right place to find out!
Onto this week’s installment of WIB?! Fool’s Gold: Apparently Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey’s onscreen chemistry was so strong in How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days, that they decided to make another go at it, as a couple on the frays of divorce. No it’s not War of the Roses or anything! They team up to find a nice sunken treasure and possibly getting cozy again! Will It Bomb? Another RomCom, eh?I think it will do very well! Top 5 status for sure, with my bet on #2. I don’t think Miley’s coming out of the #1 spot anytime soon.
In Bruges(Limited Release): Hanging out in a small Belgian town isn’t exactly Colin Farrell’s cup of tea. As a hitman laying low there with his partner, no one is sure what to expect. From what the trailer shows, it’s “let’s get shot at a little bit” then “let’s see what this little town has to offer”. Will It Bomb? This looks like something that will be a bit of an acquired taste, since Farrell’s comedic banter isn’t usually the focus of his parts. Since it’s in Limited Release for this stretch, that will set the tone. I think it will make a decent amount regardless.
Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins: Martin Lawrence left his unusual brood behind and became a hot talk show host in L.A. and now he’s on his way back to the fam and his hometown to show himself off. A concept we’ve been witness to before, without a doubt. Honestly, the gross-out moment for me involved Mo’Nique putting her feet on that kitchen table. I have no interest in eating after seeing that. Until I become hungry again, that is. Will It Bomb? The marketing efforts for this and the following flick have been going like gangbusters, so this should bring in some bank. I think this will get into the #4 or #5 spot, since the current films are getting a bit stale.
Wild West Comedy Show: 30 Days & 30 Nights-Hollywood to the Heartland: While the title of this flick is probably one of the longest I’ve ever seen (Borat still holds the record, I think), there really isn’t a ton to say. The title says it all. Vince Vaughn grabs a bunch of comedians for a month long, 30-date tour across the country, complete with craziness galore! Nice cameo by Jon Favreau, too! Will It Bomb? I think this will be nice way for Vince Vaughn fans to see him out more in the “real world” rather than putting on a persona. At any rate, it will make a modest amount of dough. Middle of the 10, I believe.
That’s going to be all for this week! Come on back early next week for all the lovely results over at DIB? WIB? is back late next week with the newbies! Have a great weekend!
All right, guys! For those of you who checked out last week’s WIB?, you’ll notice that, for some pretty good reasons, I dubbed it the Money Hungry Edition. All those flicks revolving around stealing dollars and making dollars… Money, money, money! Well, now, did those flicks bring in the kind of cash that I expected them to? Was the burning hunger for big bucks quelled? It’s time to find out!
Welcome to this week’s DIB?!
Cloverfield: Who has not heard or read anything about this film in the last 6 months or so? That’s how long they’ve been running this unbelievable marketing campaign! A vicious “thing” has been running rampant through NYC and destroying everything in its path. I’ve been wondering if this was just going to be something like Godzilla (which we’ve seen repeatedly). That would not make me happy! Will It Bomb? It’s going to premiere at the very, very top of the list and will blow away all the others and simply rake it in! Mark my words! Did It Bomb? I was right on the button, my friends! It debuted at #1 and raked in an impressive $41 million!!! Outcome: Score! 1 out of 4.
Happy Friday, everybody! As always, it’s time to discuss this week’s new releases which will be hitting the cinemas! What’s worth you digging into your couch for change or breaking open your rainy day piggy bank? Scroll on down to find out! You’ve stumbled onto another jam-packed edition of the only column where you get the dirt on each new film with no bull, just brass.
You know, I’m seeing a pattern lately with films about people resorting to crime when they have money issues as well as some films that are guaranteed to bring in a ton of revenue, so I thought that this week’s column deserves a little special treatment. So, without further ado, let’s bring on WIB?: The Money Hungry Edition!
Cassandra’s Dream(Limited Release): Greek Mythology tells us about Cassandra, daughter of the royal house of Troy, who predicted the downfall of her family as they go to war. I see a connection in this tale of two brothers (Colin Farrell and Ewan McGregor) who band together with family assistance to get out of a major financial situation. When their darling uncle Tom Wilkinson puts the squeeze on them, it’s do or die. Talk about tons of unraveling to fix this mess! Will It Bomb? I’ve never been much of a Woody Allen fan, but I will admit that I am curious as to how this will go down. While CD is in Limited Release this week, I’m thinking it’ll bag a good chunk of dough.
Cloverfield: Please don’t tell me that the endless amount of hype for this film over the last few months is wasted and this ends up being some Godzilla knockoff! I will be pretty upset. In case you haven’t heard, in New York City, we’ve got lots of buildings going down by a mysterious something (or someone) and the witnesses are eager to find out what’s happening. JJ Abrams produced, so I would think he’s got something very interesting up his sleeve! Will It Bomb? No way! This will be a piece of cake; a complete sweep! I expect this to debut at #1 and clean up the competition! Oh yeah, kids, it’s bringing in major, major cash. I have no doubt in my mind!
Mad Money: The cinematic return of Katie Holmes has thrust this film into the front line! Holmes, Queen Latifah, and Diane Keaton are back in the comedy biz as Federal Reserve employees who decide to make off with lots o’greenbacks. As if anyone wouldn’t notice! Do they have any thoughts about the consequences of their actions? It doesn’t look that way in this trailer! Will It Bomb? Katie Holmes has been hitting the talk show circuit hardcore to promote this film. Since she’s been out of the limelight as an acting professional and all the focus has been on her personal life, the masses want to see if she’s still got the chops. While the plot is unquestionably rehashed, I wouldn’t be surprised to see this flick in the Low-to-Mid section of the 10.
27 Dresses: While Katherine Heigl is a recent newlywed, her character in this movie has been a bridesmaid in almost 30 weddings. So, she’s quite an expert on the subject, right? As you would think, she’s got a major dilemma! She’s in love with her sister’s fiancé! Oh, the horror! Heigl is now America’s latest media sweetheart with her award-winning role on Grey’s Anatomy and for portrayal in the superhit Knocked Up. While we know she has skills amongst an ensemble cast, the true test will be if she can carry a film all by herself. Will It Bomb? This won’t come close to what Cloverfield will make, but I vote it’ll get into the Top 5 for two reasons. It’s time for a new RomCom to hit the books and I doubt that Heigl will want to disappoint her current fanbase and the academies that bestowed those awards on her! It looks like she hit this one out of the park.
Whew! That’s going to do it for this week! I certainly hope that you’ve gotten some great ideas about your film choices! I’m looking forward to bringing you all the results early next week over at DIB?, let me tell you!
As if I couldn’t get enough, WIB? returns late next week! Have an awesome weekend!
