Various sources are reporting that MTV has optioned the rights to remake the classic cult film The Rocky Horror Picture Show. This is possibly the worst move MTV has made since they stopped broadcasting music videos 24/7. Rocky Horror isn’t just some movie that can be remade. It’s an event. It’s a bonding experience. You either get it or you don’t. My husband hates it. My college roommates and I bonded over the love of the movie. I grew up watching it with my Mom and Aunt (who were both at the 10th Anniversary showing in New York City) and making toast, grabbing rolls of toilet paper, and remembering when to yell “Slut!”

There is no way that MTV can make a good movie out of this. No one could play Dr. Frank-N-Furter like Tim Curry. His performance was nothing short of iconic. It’d be like suggesting someone else play Pennywise in a remake of Stephen King’s It. The two roles – hell, the two movies – rely on Curry’s talent to make them what they are.

On the other hand, while there are probably actors or unknowns that could step in to play Brad and Janet (originally played by Barry Bostwick and Susan Sarandon), MTV will undoubtedly cast Zac Efron or someone else equally ridiculous as the clueless Brad and Jaime Lynn Spears (fresh from breastfeeding) to play the not-so-innocent Janet. Ugh – gag.

For the first time, I’m finding myself wishing for a writers/actors/producers/cameramen strike just so this movie doesn’t get made.

IMDb has a listing for a sequel to How to Lose A Guy In 10 Days titled How to Lose It All.

Fred Durst, of Limp Bizkit fame, directed a movie called The Longshots.

How do we let things like this happen?
