New Spanish Poster for Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Posted by: Christine on Jun 3rd, 2008 Leave a Comment »

Since Forgetting Sarah Marshall relies on naked humor a lot, it seems only fitting that this new Spanish poster for the film features a naked Jason Segel.

Anyone else wonder if the guy overdubbing the Russell Brand role pulls off a British accent on top of the Spanish?

We’re getting into the superhero movie season this year. Iron Man just blew away the box office competition. The Dark Knight trailer and viral marketing program are burning up the internet. The Incredible Hulk comes out in about a month.

Last month’s most popular items have some old favorites (#1) and some new ones (#4). They are:

  1. The Prestige Explained – Mike’s detailed explanation of the mysterious movie The Prestige jumps back into the number one spot on our list as our readers debate with Mike over the twins/clones issue.
  2. New Hitman Images – People just can’t get enough of Timothy Olyphant as Agent 47. It must be the bald head.
  3. 40 Hottest Women Over 40 – Unsurprisingly, Mike’s list of the 40 hottest actresses, singers, and others over 40 made the list again. I’d like to think it’s the article, but it’s definitely the pictures of hot chicks.
  4. Leaked Joker Images – Some semi-spoilerish images of The Joker appeared online, but were quickly removed at the request of Warner Bros. And by request I mean threats of a ceast & desist.
  5. Unofficial Cloverfield Soundtrack Available – The April 22nd release of Cloverfield on DVD had people looking for the soundtrack, which is still unavailable. This listing of the songs from Rob’s party is the closest you’ll get.
  6. Snobbies Matches – After announcing the winners of the 2008 Snobbies Awards (our own movie awards), we offered voters the chance to see how many they matched up with on the Snobbies Matches page. If you voted, just enter your email address and you’ll see how your votes compare with the winners.
  7. Forgetting Sarah Marshall Review – Jason Segel’s directorial debut includes several nude scenes…starring Jason Segel. It also stars muppets, Kristen Bell, Mila Kunis, and Hawaii.
  8. D-Wars Sequel Already? – Inexplicably people are still looking for information about D-Wars, the really bad dragon movie from last year.
  9. The Dark Knight Viral Marketing – As The Joker kicked off his new scavenger hunt on April Fool’s Day, April was a hot month for Dark Knight news. Between bowling balls and Jokerized trailers, we almost forgot there was a new trailer in the works.
  10. The Prestige Review – In a nice bit of symmetry, The Prestige review closes our list, most likely thanks to traffic sent from the #1 item on our list.

Stay tuned this month for new reviews, more Dark Knight info, and Christine’s answer to Mike’s 40 Hottest Women Over 40 list.

Apatow and Brand to Work Together Again

Total Film reports that comedy powerhouse Judd Apatow and his latest crew member Russell Brand (Aldous Snow in Forgetting Sarah Marshall) will be teaming up for a new comedy.

It’s called Get Him to the Greek and will also star Jonah Hill (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Superbad). Brand will be playing an out-of-control rock star who needs to be escorted to a show at the Greek Theater in L.A. More good news – Nicholas Stoller, who directed Sarah Marshall will also be involved. Throw in Paul Rudd, Jason Segel, and maybe even a cameo by Seth Rogen and I’ll be happy.

Did It Bomb? Weekend of 4/18/08
Posted by: Katy on Apr 23rd, 2008 Leave a Comment »

Another weekend has gone by, and let me tell you, the competition was certainly the fiercest I’ve seen in quite a long time! I made my calls with WIB? right before the weekend. Did I make the right ones?

Read on, kids! It’s time for DIB?!

88 Minutes: Al Pacino’s life is put in danger after he testifies in the trial of a murderer who is sent off to death row. He’s trying to not only fend off whoever is after him within a very short amount of time, but he has to listen to the speculation by the very guy he helped put away!
Will It Bomb? Pacino is so highly regarded, it really goes without saying that it will do well! It’ll probably set up shop in the Top 5!
Did It Bomb? What a nice start! Earning a decent $6.8 million, this ended up at #4!
Outcome: Score! 1 out of 5.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall: Jason Segel is dating A-list star Kristen Bell, or he was dating her in the beginning of this movie. When she leaves him for another guy, broken-hearted Jason jets to Hawaii for some R&R. He wasn’t expecting to run into the ex, with the new guy, was he?
Will It Bomb? Everything about this film screams “gold.” With its massive marketing campaign, hot actors, popular production genre. It’s going to take down Prom Night, and hit the top!
Did It Bomb? It may have jacked Prom Night from its standing, but stopped short at the #2 position, making $17.3 million.
Outcome: Mezza-mezza. 1 ½ out of 5.

The Forbidden Kingdom
: Jet Li and Jackie Chan together in a film? Sign me up! A teenage martial arts film fanboy gets something unexpected when he wakes up in ancient China. When these two masters have the daunting task of helping him fulfill his destiny and learn Martial Arts, that’s when I get excited!
Will It Bomb? Based on the target audience of teens and tweens, I think it shouldn’t get a lot of revenue despite those leads. Middle of the 10.
Did It Bomb? Man! I definitely should have called this better! With $20.9 million, it skyrocketed far and fast where? Into the #1 slot!
Outcome: Strike! 1 ½ out of 5.

Pathology: Someone within a group of overachieving medical students decide to go off and kill a lot of people for what? Funsies? To one-up one another? Beats me!
Will It Bomb? The competition is up there, but I think this should make it into the center of the 10.
Did It Bomb? This actually was put into Limited Release, but did make $50,000 from around 46 theatres. Not bad…
Outcome: Strike! 1 ½ out of 5.

Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden? (Limited Release): Morgan Spurlock has really found his fanbase and a niche in these quirky documentaries! Judging from the trailer, he somehow peppers the topic of terrorism and his talks with Muslims with a little bit of humor. He also goes over to the Middle East to try to track down the elusive person mentioned in the title.
Will It Bomb? This should make some money! Spurlock knows a good thing when he sees it!
Did It Bomb? In about 102 theatres, this brought in a bit over $143,200. Pretty good!
Outcome: Score! 2 ½ out of 5.

***Official Box Office tallies and positions according to Variety (, The Hollywood Reporter ( and The Internet Movie Database (
I backslid a little bit this week, but I’m confident that it will get better! Come on back later this week for WIB?, where hopefully, I will be able to change it! See you then!

Good evening, everyone! The weekend is on its way, and I hope that you all will take the time and go see one of so many films that the studios have released! Only, are they worth your precious time and dough?

That’s right! It’s time for a brand-new installment of WIB?! How are the choices looking this weekend! Scroll down and see!

88 Minutes: After having given expert testimony at the trial that puts a ruthless killer on death row, somebody’s looking to get revenge on Al Pacino! True to form, he has to figure out who wants him dead, before it’s done. Naturally, he only has, what else, 88 minutes to do that. The crazy part is the hardened criminal that got put away actually seems happy that the tables have turned.
Will It Bomb? Guys, it’s Al Pacino! He could read the list of ingredients on a cereal box and it would still be considered brilliant! I think it will make the lower level of the 5, since the rest of them are getting a bit old and not-so-fresh.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall: How can you forget Sarah Marshall? When Jason Segel gets dumped by the aforementioned screen queen (Kristen Bell), he rolls on out to Hawaii to drown his sorrows. Only, guess who’s staying at the resort with her new squeeze? While being around the happy couple is making Segel uncomfortable, he makes new connections of his own. This just may be the ticket to overcome the heartbreak!
Will It Bomb? The marketing campaign has been rampant for this comedy, and while it may be a little excessive at this point, it will pay off! Produced by Judd Apatow and written by Segel, it’s a guaranteed success. This will positively dethrone Prom Night. It will make #1, and with a great big chunk of dough!

The Forbidden Kingdom: I am beyond thrilled that two men who are considered to be masters of the martial arts film genre have finally banded together! When a teenager gets transported to Ancient China, he seems pretty skeptical about possibly becoming an elite warrior. However, the two men who wish to become his master must put their own personal feelings aside, especially when one needs rescuing. I know that if I had to pick between Jet Li and Jackie Chan, I’d have quite a hard time!
Will It Bomb? I don’t know about you, but I’ve been waiting for a pair-up like this! While the storyline is geared more toward the tweens and teens, judging by those fight scenes in the trailer, it should bring in the greenbacks! I vote that it will get into the middle of the Top 10.

Pathology: I thought the medical students in Flatliners were pulling something pretty freaky! Milo Ventimiglia stars as a med student who’s in a rivalry with another. Yep, the two overachievers are trying to trump each other. What’s the catch? Somebody in their expanded social circle is a little obsessed with murder. So, what’s the whole point of these senseless killings? Is it to gather up cadavers for genuine medical research or just for kicks? Personally, I don’t want to know!
Will It Bomb? This week has very stiff competition, but for those who want to get the living daylights scared out of them, this is the way to go! I vote center of the 10.

Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden? (Limited Release): I’ve always thought that Morgan Spurlock is pretty ballsy. What can you expect from a guy who ate nothing but McDonald’s for an 30 days? With this documentary film, the topics venture from attitudes toward terrorism and discussions with Muslims, as well as a trip to the Middle East in search of Bin Laden himself.
Will It Bomb? Spurlock has made quite a name for himself with his over-the-top documentaries, so I don’t see why this wouldn’t make a little dough!

Wow, we’ve got quite a variety! Those are my assessments, friends. Want to see if I can still maintain the level of success from last week? There’s only one way to find out! Stay tuned for the next edition of DIB?, which returns early next week. Happy viewing!

  Segel Interview – Mom Cried
Posted by: Christine on Apr 15th, 2008 Leave a Comment » has a great video interview with Jason Segel, writer and star of Forgetting Sarah Marshall in which he talks about his real-life naked breakup that inspired the opening scene of the movie.

He also talks about how he thought it would be funny not to tell his mom and his sister that he’s fully naked in the movie, which of course ended badly. Segel says,

All of a sudden, out comes my penis. And I turn to the left and my sister’s laughing hysterically. And I turn to the right, and my mother is literally crying.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall comes out this Friday, and you can read our review of it here.

At one point, there was a nylon sock involved,” Bell says. “That just drew more attention to the situation, so we ditched it.
