It’s been made officially unofficial as of early this morning (super early this morning for me, since I’m on the West coast this week.)
Burton has cast, surprise surprise Helena Bonham-Carter as the “off with her head” Red Queen, in the upcoming live-action, stop-animation, CGI fest remake of Alice In Wonderland.
In a turning surprise, the White Queen will be played by Anne Hathaway. After seeing Hathaway do an amazing job hosting SNL this past Saturday, I’m game to see just about anything she’s in. If you didn’t catch the episode, you should download it, or watch the highlights on YouTube, because it was a great week.
Although we previously reported that Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton’s new baby girl was named Indiana Rose, it seems we were mistaken along with everyone else.
This week’s new releases are a Golden Globe winner, a re-envisioning of a classic children’s cartoon from the 80s, and a Blu-ray release of M. Night Shyamalan’s Unbreakable.
Well, guys! The holiday rush hasn’t quite ended at the malls, but there was a bit of a pre-Christmas one this past weekend over at the cinema!
I gave you my predictions, so now let’s find out how they turned out!
Here comes the final edition of DIB? for 2007!
Charlie Wilson’s War: Tom Hanks as one flashy politician who teams up with a couple of people to covertly assist Afghanistan against Russia. Co-starring Philip Seymour Hoffman as a government agent and Julia Roberts as an equally flashy Texas socialite, it gives us an in-depth view into the whole deal. Will It Bomb? Three A-list actors in a plot that could have been a film before a film was even thought of! It’ll end up in the high-to-middle section of the Top 10. Did It Bomb? Hey! It managed to crawl up the ranks and make it to the #4 slot, earning $9.62 million. Outcome: Score! 1 out of 5
National Treasure: Book of Secrets: In this sequel to the hugely popular flick, Nicolas Cage returns as treasure hunter Benjamin Franklin Gates, and this time he’s out for more than gold, jewels, or precious artifacts! He wants to see what kind of involvement one of his ancestors allegedly had with the Lincoln assassination plot, and he gets into business that he probably shouldn’t be dabbling with. Will It Bomb? The first movie did very well; we needed a new action/adventure; this was the only sequel released this weekend. This will get into at least the Top 3. Did It Bomb? Absolutely not! Obviously, a stroke of luck wasn’t the only thing clinching this picture’s success! It shot up to #1, making some cash! $45.5 million, to be exact! Outcome: Score! 2 out of 5
The weekend before Christmas is officially here! Since the holiday falls on a Tuesday, the flicks that are about to hit the masses are going to make or break the end of the year totals!
So, what do you have to look forward to besides gifts and warm moments? A good selection of flicks! We’ve got a lot to discuss, so let’s get right to it!
Welcome to WIB?: The Christmas 2007 Edition!
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (Limited Release): Johnny Depp, Tim Burton, and Helena Bonham Carter team up once again to prove that 3 is indeed a magic number. Bringing Stephen Sondheim’s beloved musical about one disturbed British barber out for blood and revenge to the big screen has to be one of the smartest things the studios have done in a long while! Will It Bomb? No way. This will further solidify Johnny as the leading man of the acting world as of late. As if anyone needed more reinforcement of that concept. While this is going into Limited Release at this point, it’s going to clean up financially and critically.
Charlie Wilson’s War: An unorthodox Congressman uses unusual means in covertly assisting Afghanistan with their war against Russia. The cast is strictly A-List! As the title character, Tom Hanks plays the politician who’s into plenty of extra-curricular activities; Julia Roberts as a sassy Texas dame; Philip Seymour Hoffman as Wilson’s governmental cohort who whips out classic dry wit. This is writer Aaron Sorkin’s spin on this unbelievable true story. Will It Bomb? I love all three of these actors and so does everyone else! Since they have obviously shown their longevity and range, I would not be surprised that that alone will bring in the money! I vote it will get into the high to middle end of the Top 10. I doubt that it will be able to take down Will Smith or a couple of other competitors, but there’s something there.
Despite my prediction that they would name him Johnny (after famous friend and co-star Johnny Depp), Helena Bonham Carter and boyfriend Tim Burton have delivered a baby girl. No word on a name yet, but you can get the rest of the details at The Washington Post.
