It’s the beginning of another week, friends! Movies debuted this weekend, and I gave you the lowdown on how they would do. How close did I come?
Welcome to an all-new DIB? for this clear evening! Away we go!
College Road Trip: Raven Symoné has literally grown up before the world’s eyes, and in this film, she’s checking out colleges! Memories! You can imagine that if Martin Lawrence was your dad and Donny Osmond was riding shotgun, it would get a little bit crazy! Will It Bomb? Tweens rejoice! You have a new film! I don’t see anything that could wage a good battle against this market, so it’ll probably get in the lower end of the Top 10. Did It Bomb? Oops! I should have guessed that this would bring in more! This ended up at the #2 position, earning a tidy $14 million. Outcome: Strike! 0 out of 4
Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day (Limited Release): Without much makeup on and pulling out a pretty impressive British accent, Frances McDormand is out of one job taking care of kids, but ends up taking care of an adult! Amy Adams is a struggling actress who needs a little guidance in her life, so one helps the other!
Will It Bomb? We’ve missed you, Frances! Since she’s been out of the limelight for a bit, this should bring in some money in its stint in Limited Release. Did It Bomb? With over 530 theaters screening this, it brought in a good chunk! $2.5 million, to be exact! Outcome! Strike! 0 out of 4
All right, kids! This is the first edition of WIB? for the lovely month of March! As the old saying goes, it comes in like a lion, and goes out like a lamb. With the list of films coming out this weekend, it’s a great kick-off! Do they have what it takes? Check them out!
College Road Trip: Little Raven Symoné was such a cute kid when she was on The Cosby Show. As a teenager/young adult, she has forged into the tween market with a bunch of shows on the children’s channels. This latest effort shows her character off to look at institutions of higher learning, along with daddy Martin Lawrence and (no lie!) Donny Osmond! Will It Bomb? There isn’t anything that could be viable competition for the tween circuit, so this will pull in some cash. I’m thinking low end of the 10.
Miss Pettigrew Lives For a Day (LR): Frances McDormand is a rather plain looking former British governess who has just lost her job. When she’s hired to be a “life coach” for struggling actress Amy Adams on what path to take in life and love, she also finds what she’s been missing in her own life. Will It Bomb? It looks adorable, and featuring an actress we haven’t seen much of lately, this may earn a small amount in Limited Release.
All right, kids! Another weekend, another Box Office run. Let’s take a look at how my predictions from last week fared, shall we?
Welcome to this week’s edition of DIB?!
Fool’s Gold:Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson made such a great romantic comedy couple, that they decided to give it another go. They may be estranged, but the lure of sunken treasure may reignite the sparks between them! Will It Bomb? I’m banking that Miley Cyrus won’t be toppled from the top spot, but this will land in the Top 5 anyway. I’m betting on the #2 slot. Did It Bomb? It looks like Miley lost her crown! It hit #1 and brought in $22 million. Nice haul!
Outcome: Mezza-mezza, ½ out of 4.
The weekend is finally here, kids! You know that means new flicks are coming right at you! What have you got to look forward to? What has no chance of making a dollar? Of course, you’ve come to the right place to find out!
Onto this week’s installment of WIB?! Fool’s Gold: Apparently Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey’s onscreen chemistry was so strong in How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days, that they decided to make another go at it, as a couple on the frays of divorce. No it’s not War of the Roses or anything! They team up to find a nice sunken treasure and possibly getting cozy again! Will It Bomb? Another RomCom, eh?I think it will do very well! Top 5 status for sure, with my bet on #2. I don’t think Miley’s coming out of the #1 spot anytime soon.
In Bruges(Limited Release): Hanging out in a small Belgian town isn’t exactly Colin Farrell’s cup of tea. As a hitman laying low there with his partner, no one is sure what to expect. From what the trailer shows, it’s “let’s get shot at a little bit” then “let’s see what this little town has to offer”. Will It Bomb? This looks like something that will be a bit of an acquired taste, since Farrell’s comedic banter isn’t usually the focus of his parts. Since it’s in Limited Release for this stretch, that will set the tone. I think it will make a decent amount regardless.
Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins: Martin Lawrence left his unusual brood behind and became a hot talk show host in L.A. and now he’s on his way back to the fam and his hometown to show himself off. A concept we’ve been witness to before, without a doubt. Honestly, the gross-out moment for me involved Mo’Nique putting her feet on that kitchen table. I have no interest in eating after seeing that. Until I become hungry again, that is. Will It Bomb? The marketing efforts for this and the following flick have been going like gangbusters, so this should bring in some bank. I think this will get into the #4 or #5 spot, since the current films are getting a bit stale.
Wild West Comedy Show: 30 Days & 30 Nights-Hollywood to the Heartland: While the title of this flick is probably one of the longest I’ve ever seen (Borat still holds the record, I think), there really isn’t a ton to say. The title says it all. Vince Vaughn grabs a bunch of comedians for a month long, 30-date tour across the country, complete with craziness galore! Nice cameo by Jon Favreau, too! Will It Bomb? I think this will be nice way for Vince Vaughn fans to see him out more in the “real world” rather than putting on a persona. At any rate, it will make a modest amount of dough. Middle of the 10, I believe.
That’s going to be all for this week! Come on back early next week for all the lovely results over at DIB? WIB? is back late next week with the newbies! Have a great weekend!
