Are you still out there reading this? It’s evident that we’re not still in here writing it, that’s for sure.
Thanks for keeping coming back, even though we haven’t written anything in almost a year. We’re terrible people, we know.
I’ve got some renewed inspiration here, and feel like getting back into the swing of things. I’ll be updating the site more frequently in the upcoming weeks, and hope to get some of you involved in things at MovieSnobs. It’ll take a while to get back into the swing of things, but hopefully we can get back to where we used to be.
Thanks again for visiting. If you haven’t already, be sure to sign up for the RSS feed, so you’ll know when we update things. If you don’t use an RSS reader, you can use the E-mail signup box on the right of any page to get daily e-mail updates, powered by FeedBurner.
Some of you may have come to the site yesterday, and saw a post from “Kerri”, and thought “Who the hell is Kerri?”
Kerri is the newest addition to the MovieSnobs team. She recently accepted a position as a staff writer for us. She’ll be covering the usual gammit of MovieSnobs related things; reviewing movies, writing about news, and pretty much anything else we ask her to write about.
Give her a warm welcome, and if you want to be her friend just tell her you like Fox’s “Dollhouse.” You’ll be good for life.
Like seeing movies? Like telling your friends how good (or bad!) that recent box office hit was? MovieSnobs.net may be your new home on the web.
We’re looking for some new, and talented, writers to join our staff.
Working for us is simple. Just see movies, write reviews of them, and write about anything movie related for the site. And we’ll pay you. It can’t be much more simple than that!
All you need is the ability to write well, meet deadlines, and follow through on your word.
What are the benefits? Glad you asked. For starters, we’ll pay you to see movies. If that’s not cool enough, we get quite a few sneak preview passes to see movies before they come out, and we often get DVDs sent to us from various mainstream and independent studios (that we’ll send to you, to check out). On top of that, you get to verbally abuse movies you hate, or praise movies you love. On the internet. For hundreds of thousands of people to read every year. What more can you ask for?
Interested? Hop on over to our Staff Application and fill it out. We’ll get back to you if we’re interested, with all the details. If you know someone who might be interested, feel free to pass this along to them.
Hey everyone, over the last 48 hours, we’ve spent a good portion of that time working on releasing some improvements to the site that I’ve put together over the last two weeks.
Some new (and improved) features that you’ll want to look for:
Registration is now open – we’ve opened up registration to anyone who wants to register. We’ll be doing random give-aways for our top commenters, so be sure to signup and login, to keep track of your comments.
Facebook Connect – Have a Facebook profile, but don’t want to sign up here? You don’t have to, just click the “Connect” button in the login box on the right, and we’ll do the registration part for you, automatically. Anytime you visit the site, logged into Facebook, you’ll be logged in here, like magic.
Publish comment/story to Facebook – When you comment on a post, and you’re “connected” to Facebook, you can share the story right on Facebook, with one simple click.
Review pages have moved – we moved all of our reviews into a new format. No more trying to remember the URL (moviesnobs.net/review.php?movieid=xxx), now they’re simple. ie; moviesnobs.net/twilight-review.
Same goes for cast members – all cast member pages are simple now, too. No more cast.php?actorid= nonsense. Just moviesnobs.net/firstname-lastname. Simple!
Reviews and cast pages now can be commented on – We decided to open up the reviews and cast member pages to be commented on. Over the last four years, we’ve gotten a lot of e-mail from people who wanted to be able to discuss a review we’ve put up. Now, you can.
Reviews and Cast are now in our RSS feed. For years we didn’t have the technology to put the reviews or cast into the RSS feed. No more!
Archives streamlined – no more useless sorting by who wrote it, or how many stars we gave it. Now the archives are simple: news items, reviews, and cast members. All on one page.
Search improved – Frustrated you couldn’t find what you were looking for? The search results are now smarter, and give you results based on relevance. (I’m still tweaking this, so if it’s not perfect, don’t hate me.)
Not bad for a weekend’s worth of work. We spent hours last night redirecting all the old URLs to the new ones, so if something doesn’t work, please comment on this post, so we’ll know about it, and fix it.
Thanks to everyone who continues to visit our site. Without your eyeballs reading this site, we’d have no reason to continue doing it.
The Snobbies are officially under way! They were launched at 12:01AM EST this morning, and have had great response thus far. Be sure to cast your vote today!
I’ve been feverishly typing away all morning, making sure all the nominees are entered right, and the voting code is working. As of now, it seems to be a-okay, but only time will tell.
At 12:01AM, we’ll be opening up the voting for this year’s Snobbies. This year’s prizes are bigger than ever (thanks to some of our awesome sponsors), and we hope someone wins every last thing!
This year’s prize list:
Grand Prize: Free movies, large popcorn, and large soda for a year. (One movie per week) – Retail Value: $936 First Prize: Sony PlayStation 3 and 6 Blu-ray movies of choice. Retail Value: $580 Second Prize: 16GB Apple iPhone. Service, taxes, and other fees not included. Only the phone. Retail Value: $299 Third Prize: 3 DVDs of your choice. Retail Value: $60
Rules can be read once you start your vote, if you’re curious as to how the whole she-bang works. Be sure to cast your vote. Voting closes March 31st, 2009 at 11:59PM EST, so be sure to vote. In today’s tough economy, who wouldn’t want to go to the movies for free, for a whole year? And have someone buy them popcorn and soda? That’s an unbeatable deal!
If you’ve got any questions, feel free to e-mail us before casting your vote. [email protected]
I apologize for those who tried to visit the site earlier today. We had to take it down while we did some revamping of things. Hopefully it was worth it.
For those that are new visitors, it won’t matter much, but those who’ve visited before obviously notice the biggest chance: the design.
I’ve been working on redesigning the site for months now. We wanted something different, but we all loved the way the site looked (for the most part), so I kept the new design very similar, just with some layout changes and whatnot.
Some not so noticeable changes:
Everything should load faster now; We’re doing some behind the scenes work when pages are loaded to make them load faster.
Threaded comments; You can now respond directly to a comment, and have a “conversation” in the comments sections on news articles.
Mailing list; We’re starting the e-mail list anew, thus you’ll want to sign up in the box to the right there. Details can be found here. It should also be noted that when you sign up, you’re automatically entered to win a DVD (standard, or Blu-ray) that we’ll draw monthly.
The search is more refined now. You should get more of what you were looking for, and less unrelated junk. The search box has also been relocated, it’s now on the top right corner of any page on the site.
Not new, but we’ve got an RSS feed; You should sign up, seriously. RSS feeds make lives better, it’s a proven fact.
A new “Now on DVD” box, that gets updated every Tuesday morning. So you’ll know what movies you need to head out to buy when they’re released.
That pretty much covers all the changes. I hope you like them. Any feedback is appreciated, please feel free to comment or e-mail me with your’s.
