  Taken Gets a Sequel!

Those who visit this site frequently know how much I really really loved Taken.  It’s a badass movie, with lots of ass kicking.

News came out late last night, that screenwriter Robert Mark Kramen (The Professional, Taken, The Karate Kid) let slip that he’s working on a sequel, in a recent interview.

Here’s the quote from the interview:

With more action films in the works, including a sequel to “Taken” and an American version of “District 13,” a popular 2004 French thriller that Besson produced, Kamen says he’s never been happier.

I, for one, am super psyched.  If you didn’t get to check out Taken in the theaters, it’ll be out on DVD in the next few months.  No DVD release date is available at the time of this article.

  Tyler Perry Strikes Gold, Again

It seems the guy can do no wrong.  Yet another Tyler Perry movie has shot straight to the top of the charts for a second week in a row.

The Jonas Brothers had no chance of taking the number one spot, and Tyler Perry held strong.

Madea Goes to Jail – $16.5M
Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience – $12.7M
Slumdog Millionaire – $12.2M
Taken – $9.95M
He’s Just Not That Into You – $5.88M

It’s nice that Taken is still pulling in $10 million a week, even though some of the press is bashing the hell out of it.  Don’t believe them, Taken is amazing.

Horror takes top spot at box office

It was a good weekend for Friday the 13th‘s newest chapter in its seemingly endless series.  It opened this weekend with a whopping $42.5 million, the highest grossing opening weekend for a horror movie, ever.  Pretty impressive.

The rest of the top five were:

  • Friday the 13th
  • He’s Just Not That Into You (1st spot last week)
  • Taken (2nd spot last week)
  • Confessions of a Shopaholic
  • Coraline (4th spot last week)

There really wasn’t all that many good movies opening this past weekend, so it’s no wonder the horror movie took top honors.  It is surprising, however, that on Valentine’s weekend, that many guys convinced their girlfriends/wives to see a horror movie.

  Taken Takes Top Spot

When I saw Taken a few weeks ago, I knew it was going to be the number one movie on its opening weekend.  It’s a fantastic flick, and the amount of trailer runnings on every station that TV has to offer certainly helped.

Taken knocks Paul Blart: Mall Cop out of its top sport, that it held for the past two weeks.

The top 5 movies, by box office take, this weekend:

  • Taken – $24.6 million
  • Paul Blart: Mall Cop – $14 million
  • The Uninvited – $10.5 million
  • Hotel for Dogs – $8.7 million
  • Gran Torino – $8.6 million

Someone recommeneded that I check out Taken, that comes out later this month.  I really didn’t have an interest, but just saw the trailer for it, and it looks pretty good.

I managed to get a screener copy of it, and will be watching it this afternoon when I get home from seeing Seven Pounds.  The trailer for Taken is below.
