Hey, everyone! Welcome to WIB?! This week is a little short on new film releases, but the two that are coming out this weekend have got their work cut out for them. Not only do they have to compete against the current holders of the Top 10 spots, and each other, but the television, too. Our beloved Red Sox are in the World Series!
As much as I love chit-chat, we’ve got some films to go over. On to this week’s new releases!
Dan in Real Life: Steve Carell shows his softer side, yet again, in this film. He portrays a columnist who deals with, yes folks, life! What a concept! He’s raising children as a single father, gets visited by his kooky relatives, and develops a major crush on his brother’s girlfriend. Costarring Dane Cook, Dianne Wiest, John Mahoney, and Juliette Binoche, this romantic comedy may be a little short on the kind of humor that we’re used to seeing from those guys. Will It Bomb? How can I describe this film? It looks nice and sweet. Maybe it’s a little too sweet, as in it may rot your teeth. Nevertheless, it’ll make a little trip into the Top 10, thanks to its star. Since this isn’t typical “Carell as a wildman” fare, it will probably make its journey in the mid-to-low end of the 10.
Saw IV: Jigsaw and his cohort are supposed to be deceased, right? So, how is it that the “traps” are getting more graphic and elaborate? Wait a second. How is it that they are even being produced? Movie magic, guys! The shocks keep coming, and at this rate, there will be a Saw 45. The trailers I have seen don’t give too much of the plot away, in order to keep everyone on the edges of their seats. How much more disturbing are these movies going to be? One can only imagine. Will It Bomb? Not on your life (pun intended)! The Saw franchise keeps growing and so does the revenue. It will definitely pull into the 5. I have no doubt about it! This will go up against 30 Days of Night and will probably dethrone it from its perch at the top spot. Again, thanks to Halloween being just around the corner!
All right! So one looks like it’ll be a runaway hit, and the other may need a bit more inflating. That’s going to be it for me! WIB? is back next week with the newbies, waiting to be picked apart. Don’t forget to check out the results of today’s assessments over at DIB?, early next week! I’m looking forward to it already! Until then!
