While the entertainment industry is still reeling from the tragic and sudden death of Heath Ledger earlier this week and that of Brad Renfro last week, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of sorrow and shock. For me, these emotions cannot express my thoughts about the losses of two young actors who possessed true and undeniable talent. As with other greats who passed long before their time, their individual lights had yet to reach their full brightness. I can only hope that their families, friends, loved ones, and fans will keep the memories alive and those lights will continue to shine as intensely as ever.
However, as sad as how the entire course of events has transpired, as they say in this business, the show must go on. As always, the newest films are still slated for release by their respective studios, and I am here to give you all the details about the odds of them either turning a nice buck or going right down the tubes. It’s time for this week’s edition of WIB?.
What’s it looking like this weekend? Read on…
How She Move: When her family goes broke and can no longer afford to send her to an elite private school, a teenager returns to her rough and tumble neighborhood, battling her former childhood friends. Joining a step dancing group, a major competition’s prize money may be what she needs to get her back on track. Will It Bomb? Absolutely. This has to be easily the fourth or fifth step dancing movie that has come out in the last 2 years. In addition, we all know at least 10 films that have to do with personal struggle and overcoming adversity. I see no success for this film. They should have sent it straight to DVD.
Meet the Spartans: As if we don’t have enough horrible films that have already come out. Here’s another mishmash of parodies to add to that list. Is nothing sacred anymore? You’ve got Leonidas and the Spartans going up against people in a step dancing competition; killer penguins; Britney Spears’ head-shaving incident… Come up with something decent already! Will It Bomb? The whole Epic Movie/Not Another Teen Movie franchise has gotten completely out of control. As usual, this is loaded with stupid humor for those who don’t want to think, and they will flock to see it. It looks like it will possibly make an appearance in the #5, since National Treasure is old news.
Rambo: Sly Stallone ended his Rocky series with a bang this past year, and now he’s doing the same with the machine gun-toting, shaggy-haired, ass-kicking John Rambo. From what I see from the trailer, Rambo is taking on one final mission and rounding up the cavalry to assist him. Will It Bomb? Well, Stallone is officially hanging up his bandanna, so the hardcore fans of this series will definitely bring in those dollars. This will be a Top 10 contender for sure, but due to the strength of the current Top 5, I don’t think it will break through. Overall, this will secure a spot in the center of the 10.
Untraceable: As an FBI agent specializing in cyber crimes, Diane Lane has got her work cut out for her when a freaky little website pops up. Basically, you check out the website and wait for the carnage. The more web traffic the site gets, the quicker the death, and the body count is getting higher and higher. Guess who’s assigned to discover the identity of this mysterious killer? Will It Bomb? Cloverfield definitely has a run for its money with this. It’s about time we had a nice, new action thriller to look forward to. My vote? It will get into the Top 5, and possibly join Cloverfield and 27 Dresses in the Top 3.
Thanks for checking out this week’s WIB?. Don’t forget, DIB? is back early next week with all of the results. Have a wonderful weekend, and Happy Viewing.
