The weekend has arrived! I know that all of you are jonesing for what I’m about to talk about! What’s coming out at the cinema this week? Oh, my friends, stuff is definitely cooking and the kettle is ready to boil over!
Onto this week’s edition of WIB?! Let’s roll!
Baby Mama: When a single career woman (Tina Fey) hears her biological clock ticking really loudly, she jumps on the baby bandwagon, until she learns she cannot get pregnant naturally. In comes the surrogate mother (Amy Poehler), who acts more like the kid that’s soon to be born! Yep, they bond during the whole process, all right! Will It Bomb? These two ladies are hysterical by themselves, but the combined wits of the former SNL-ers will absolutely send this into the Top 3. It’s going to be a free-for-all between this, Marshall, and Forbidden.
Deal (Limited Release): What the heck is going on with Burt Reynolds? Can he not find any great roles anymore? Here he plays a former professional poker player who latches on to the new kid on the block (Bret Harrison), as they try to earn some serious dough in Vegas. Just as you might guess, they end up taking each other on at the tournament finals! I’d like to point out at this time that there are way too many similarities to that awful movie with Eric Bana called Lucky You. . Will It Bomb? This doesn’t have a chance! Poker and gambling movies are dicey. 21 managed to deliver a complex and compelling story, which make the money. Lucky You had a flat storyline, not-so-great acting, and thus, barely made a dime. Take it from experience, it won’t even break the 10 when it goes into Wide Release.
Deception: As a man recruited into a special underground club by Hugh Jackman, Ewan McGregor learns it’s all comprised of sex between strangers. When he begins seeing one of the female members (Michelle Williams) on the sly, and she goes missing, Ewan must break the rest of the rules to aid in the search. Only nothing and no one is what they seem! Hugh Jackman hasn’t really played too many evil roles, so I am quite thrilled that he heads on over to the dark side in this film! Will It Bomb? I love a good suspense film, but due to last week’s holdovers and the other newbies, this will probably set up shop in the Low-to-Mid section of the Top 10.
Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay: While the stoners and slackers have been considered almost endearing in some films, I can’t really comment on the appeal of these two. Kal Penn and John Cho reprise their roles here. After attempting to smuggle some drug paraphernalia on a flight to The Netherlands, they accused of being involved in terrorist activity and are sent to a prison on a U.S. base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Naturally, the whole point of the movie is how they are going to break out of there! Will It Bomb? I don’t see why not! It’s the sequel to the popular flick and a bunch of the characters from the original are on board! This will get into the 5, no doubt in my mind!
All right, folks! There you have it! I will see you with the official recap early next week over at DIB?! Happy weekend and happy viewing!
