    Will it bomb?

Hey everyone!

If you’ve taken a peek at my staff page, you will know that I have a sixth sense in predicting the success of a film.

They say money talks. That’s definitely true in the film industry. With that, I’d like to welcome you to my inaugural edition of Will It Bomb? (Thanks to Mike for the title!). Basically, I will give you the rundown of each week’s new releases, and I will make the call of whether or not it will make any cash at the Box Office.

So, let the games begin!
Turistas: Well, this is going to be a bit of a toughy for me. Films like this have a tendency to fare pretty well. With the current top films not quite so new anymore (with the exception of Deja Vu), audiences are itching for something different. However, considering the competition, and how strong the hold is, I believe that this movie will probably open within the top 5, stay within the top 10, but it will not make it to #1.

My prediction:SCORE

The Nativity Story: Christmastime has arrived, so what better way to ring it in than a film leading to the birth of Jesus? As Mary, Keisha Castle-Hughes certainly does have big shoes to fill. However, it seems that a good amount of discussion (IMDB, etc.) relating to her role has a more to do with her personal life. At any rate, religious movies released around the winter and spring holidays almost always perform well.

My prediction:SCORE

Van Wilder 2: The Rise of Taj: As always, sequels are a crap shoot. Again, this is going to be the kind of movie that people will go to see simply because it’s new. In this case, the competition will hurt its chances, more than help it. If anything, this will crack the top 10, but won’t create nearly as much buzz or cash that the first one did.

My prediction:SO-SO, leaning toward BOMB.

10 Items or Less: This movie looks to be very lighthearted and spunky, which is great for the holiday season. Judging from the trailer, the plot seems to be clever, and there is chemistry between the two lead actors. With Morgan Freeman as popular as he is, and this film coming not long after his Oscar win, I think that this movie will make a decent amount of money.

My prediction: SCORE

Thanks for checking out this week’s edition of Will It Bomb?. As always, if you have your own theories on my predictions, I would love to hear from you!
